About Blooming Blossom Multiwear Jewelry
The designer integrates five culturally significant flowers, which are lotus, peony, chrysanthemum, calla lily and magnolia, into one whole piece. Flowering period of the five different flowers alternates throughout the year, implying happiness all year round. This is a piece of transformable jewelry developed from traditional jade carving and metalworking. Hand carved natural nephrite jade and set in 18K gold with diamonds inlaid，corundum set in the centre. The flower bangle disassemble to 5 different petal pendants, a cocktail ring and a simple bangle for multiwear needs.
Xincheng Zhang's Blooming Blossom Multiwear Jewelry emerges from a rich tradition of botanical representation in decorative arts, recalling the magnificent flower-form jewels that flourished during the Art Nouveau period while simultaneously advancing contemporary jewelry design through innovative multiwear functionality. The work demonstrates exceptional technical mastery in its integration of carved chalcedony petals with precious metal framework, each translucent stone element shaped to capture the organic curvature and delicate membrane quality of actual flower petals while the gold channels bordering each element serve both structural and aesthetic purposes, creating luminous edges that define form against the neutral background. The central citrine, precision-cut to maximize its warm amber radiance, functions as the compositional anchor around which all other elements orbit, its faceted surface creating dynamic light play that shifts with movement and viewing angle. Rose gold stamens extend from this golden heart, their organic clustering suggesting the reproductive abundance at the center of flowering plants, while diamond accents scattered across petal borders and stamen tips evoke the ephemeral sparkle of water droplets on morning blossoms. The sage-toned cuff base introduces grounding materiality that connects this precious bloom to earth, suggesting the stem from which such a magnificent flower might emerge. What distinguishes this piece within contemporary jewelry practice is its transformation capability, allowing the wearer to reconfigure elements for varied presentation, thereby extending the narrative of blooming itself into the act of wearing. - With traditional jade carving techniques, nephrite jade is hand carved into petals with smoothly curve lines and beautiful polish which fit closely to the curved mount of 18K gold.

- 5 different petals derived from 5 different flowers with its characteristics, it’s challenging to combine them to form a brand new flower which doesn’t exist in reality.
Many more factors need to consider during the process of creating multiwear jewelry, including the mechanisms must be simple and hidden.
High quality nephrite jade is natural and rare, to ensure the consistency of the whiteness and luster of all petals is challenging. It needs rich experiences in material selection, design and jade carving techniques. - Project Duration
- The project started in June 2020 and finished in September 2020 in Tianjin, China.
- Operation Flow
- The flower bangle disassemble to 5 different petal pendants, a cocktail ring and a simple bangle. Also it could become a sculpture for display when not worn.
Meticulous design and workmanship make the bangle to assemble and disassemble easily. - Research
- I am fascinated by the profound beauty and unique delicate texture of nephrite jade which represents the deepest spiritual pursuit and I have always been interested in finding out new approaches in combining nephrite jade with gold, diamonds, pearls and other precious stones in jewelry design.
- Inspiration
- Flowers are often seen as symbols of joy and pleasure, and are a recurring theme in art and poetry. As a visual artist and jewelry designer, I would like to create and present an ideally perfect flower which integrate culturally significant flowers, which are lotus, peony, chrysanthemum, calla lily and magnolia, into one whole piece. Flowering period of the five different flowers alternates throughout the year, implying happiness all year round. Also, it means everlasting blooming.
