About Briiv Pro Air Purifier
Briiv Pro is an air purifier designed for use in homes and offices. Briiv Pro replaces fossil-fuel derived plastics with bioplastics, moss, coconut fibre and recyclable glass. The unit stands 30 centimetres tall, measures 16 centimetres in diameter and weighs 1.3 kilograms. An onboard air quality sensor allows Briiv Pro to adjust the fan speed automatically. Control is possible through an LED interface, a proximity sensor for touchless use, or a mobile application. Several units can be linked to clean the air in larger spaces. Power use and filter replacement costs are kept low.
Ryan Ward's Briiv Pro Air Purifier emerges from the contemporary movement toward biophilic design and sustainable material innovation, representing a thoughtful synthesis of functional technology and natural aesthetic that speaks to evolving consumer consciousness regarding environmental impact. The designer appears to have drawn inspiration from terrarium culture and the growing appreciation for bringing natural elements into interior spaces, creating an object that functions as both appliance and decorative presence. The technical achievement lies in the visible integration of natural filtration media, specifically preserved moss and coconut fiber, within a refined industrial form that celebrates rather than conceals its working materials. The glass dome serves a dual purpose: protecting the organic filtration elements while transforming them into a display feature that invites contemplation of natural processes. The formal language suggests influences from Scandinavian design traditions with their emphasis on material honesty, craft integration, and harmonious proportion, while the visible layering of filtration media creates an almost geological cross-section effect that educates viewers about the product's sustainable composition. The black base with its rhythmic fin pattern references industrial design conventions while providing necessary air intake functionality, demonstrating how aesthetic choices can emerge from technical requirements. - Design Challenge
- The most difficult part of the design process was to accomodate a larger, more powerful fan that wouldn't compromise the footprint of the product.
We wished to keep Briiv Pro as a small appliance and not subject to higher voltage needs (which would in turn make it more expensive to run).
Upon finding a fan that suited our needs and didn't require more power to run, we augmented the base to output clean air more efficiently then before, making Briiv Pro even more powerful than initial testng would show. - Project Duration
- The project began in mid-2022 when the decision was made to bring a more up to date, more powerful version of our original product to market. Currently Briiv Pro is fielding orders from all over the world.
- Operation Flow
- Briiv Pro can be operated in three distinct ways: firstly via the LED interface on the front of the unit, allowing the user to increase and decrease the fan speed. The second method is the touchless approach which uses the same LED interface though operates via proximity sensor, keeping Briiv Pro from being touched. The final method is via the Briiv app where Briiv Pro units can be turned on, off, increase and decrease in speed of operation as well as scheduled and meshed together to form an air cleaning network of multiple Briiv units.
- Research
- Our previous design had broken new ground in the world of consumer electronics and suddenly we recevied new requests and demands from our clients.
It became clear that the world wanted more power and more features.
As such we applied our original research to a more powerful unit that now delivers more clean air than before. The onboard air qulaity sensor provides the unit with autonomy to monitor the air around it and run itself to clean the air to a satisfactory level.
The largest leap forward for the functions is the mesh-network aspect: multiple units working together to clean the air of a larger environment, multiple rooms in a house for example, all driven via the Briiv app.
Increased clean air delivery, improved unit autonomy and integrated multi-unit mesh-networking have brought Briiv Pro to the forefront of sustainable electronics by delivering more than ever before. - Inspiration
- Air purifiers are usually bulky, ugly and loud and rely almost entirely on unsustainable production practices and materials.
There is no reason why air purification cannot be sustainable in both form and function. That is why we dedicated ourselves to making Briiv Pro the most sustainable form of air purification available.
Instead of waiting for the world to change, we decided to change it for the better.
