About Chongqing Gaoke Group Ltd Office and Commercial
Chongqing Gaoke Group Ltd is an office tower located in Chongqing, China. The building rises to a height of 201 metres and is defined by a double curved facade. The facade links the northern and eastern sides from bottom to top, and the form was inspired by the dancing aurora. Rectilinear volumes are set beside tower surfaces with double curves. The maximum twisting angle reaches 8.8 degrees per floor. Cold bent glass and building information modelling were used to resolve the complex geometry. The tower was completed in 2022.
Aedas's Chongqing Gaoke Group Ltd Office and Commercial exemplifies the continuing evolution of tower design within contemporary architectural practice, where the conventional rectangular prism has been reimagined through the introduction of a distinctive diagonal gesture that transforms static mass into dynamic sculptural presence, the design demonstrating sophisticated engagement with questions of corporate identity and urban landmark creation through formal means rather than applied ornament, the architects appearing to have drawn inspiration from natural phenomena of flowing water or windswept fabric translated into the permanent medium of metal and glass at monumental scale, this approach situating the work within broader contemporary investigations of building envelope as expressive surface capable of communicating movement and energy even in motionless material form, the technical achievement evident in the seamless integration of the spiraling metallic ribbon with the underlying curtain wall system suggests considerable coordination between facade engineering and architectural vision, the chromatic restraint limiting the palette to variations of blue glass and silver-white metal demonstrates confident design sensibility that trusts formal gesture rather than chromatic complexity to achieve visual impact, the building's relationship with its immediate landscape including the reflecting pool and carefully positioned vegetation indicates holistic site thinking that extends architectural intention beyond the tower footprint into the broader experiential realm of approach and arrival, the presence of distant traditional architectural forms on the hilltop creates an intriguing temporal dialogue between historical building traditions and contemporary technological capability, inviting contemplation of how architectural ambition manifests differently across eras while perhaps sharing underlying aspirations toward creating meaningful landmarks within their respective cultural moments, viewers might consider how the building's twisted form appears differently from various vantage points around the site and how this multiplicity of readings enriches the experience of architectural encounter.
Press Kit
- Unique Properties
- This 201M high office tower has the strong feature of Double-Curved Façade, which put it among one of “The Most Twisting Towers in the World”.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- To achieve a very smooth transition of the glass façade, the design uses double-curved cold form glass instead of the usual or more common faceted method. The maximum twisting angle is up to 8.8 degrees per floor surpassing the existing super high-rise tower in the world by nearly 1.5 times (CTBUH Journal, 2016 Issue 3). The system of cold bend glass on the 3D frame façade component enables a maximum of 86mm in glass deviation between floors, realizing a record-breaking design in China.

- Production Technology
- The unique twisting results in a high double-curvature ratio, which poses a major challenge for the overall façade system. The team and RFR joint hands to leverage the cold bend glass technique and BIM on complex geometry façade for a magic solution. From overall geometry analysis, façade component modelling & clash-checking, LOD400 detail component modelling, automotive data exporting and auditing, 3D BIM has been utilized throughout the entire façade design process.
- Project Duration
- Completion Year: 2022
Location: Chongqing, China - Inspiration
- Inspired by the dancing aurora, the designer introduced an impressive façade design through bottom-to-top connections between northern and eastern sides. The ‘dance of light’ is characterized by the juxtaposition of rectilinear forms and tower façades with double curves.
