About Churros Lighting

It found that the sense of multiple arrays evokes a familiar feeling in East Asian culture, reflected in items like water wheels, tea brushes, scrolls, bamboo blinds, fans, and lantern frameworks. These complex, geometric forms repeat in lines, inspiring the creation of the elongated Churros lamp. The new old tube light. Churros combines the warmth of wooden strips with minimalist order, creating volume and offering both upward and downward light, providing even illumination and enhancing spatial layering.

Lin Yi-Hsien's Churros Lighting emerges from contemporary discourse surrounding the humanization of industrial lighting typologies, participating in a broader design conversation that seeks to reconcile utilitarian illumination with sculptural expression and material warmth, a trajectory visible across progressive lighting design practices that honor craft traditions while embracing advanced manufacturing capabilities and energy-efficient technologies. The compositional achievement lies in the work's elegant restraint and confident asymmetry, arranging three bundled tubular fixtures at carefully calibrated angles that create dynamic spatial relationships without overwhelming the viewer, establishing visual rhythm through repetition with variation, each element similar in construction yet distinct in orientation and termination color, inviting extended contemplation of subtle differences within systematic consistency. The chromatic sophistication demonstrates remarkable discipline, limiting the palette to warm earth tones, glowing amber, and rich burgundy-mahogany accents, a color strategy that evokes both natural materials and nostalgic associations with early electric lighting while avoiding pastiche or mere historical quotation, instead synthesizing historical reference with contemporary sensibility. Technical facility becomes apparent in the seamless integration of light source, structural support, and decorative element, where suspension cables serve both functional and compositional roles, spherical nodes operate as visual punctuation and structural connectors simultaneously, and the bundled tubular configuration transforms ordinary linear LED or fluorescent sources into something approaching organic form, suggesting bundled reeds, architectural columns, or even the ridged texture of the confectionery form referenced in the design's title. The work explores the threshold between utility and sculpture, questioning where functional lighting ends and art object begins, proposing that contemporary domestic environments deserve illumination that serves practical needs while simultaneously enriching spatial experience through material beauty and formal intelligence. One might observe how the fixtures activate surrounding architecture through cast light and shadow play, how their suspended presence creates volume within space rather than merely occupying it, and how the warm amber glow suggests refuge and intimacy in an era often dominated by cool blue-spectrum illumination, perhaps inviting viewers to consider how lighting choices shape not merely visibility but emotional atmosphere, temporal perception, and the felt quality of inhabited space.

Production Technology
The goal of the Churros Lighting Collection is indeed to reuse materials from the original space. This approach not only minimizes waste but also ensures that each lamp is uniquely tied to its environment, emphasizing sustainability through the repurposing of local resources. The design aims to reduce the environmental footprint by integrating recycled materials, promoting a circular economy, and supporting localized craftsmanship.
Project Duration
The lighting design started in 2023 and finished in May in 2024, and was launched in 2024 in Taiwan.
Operation Flow
Functionally, it offers both upward and downward light sources, providing even illumination on tabletops while also offering indirect lighting above the lamp, enhancing the spatial layering.
Inspiration
In the 19th century, the invention of the light tube led to the creation of explosion-proof lights for industrial use—now iconic vintage items. What if we reimagined an industrial-style explosion-proof light tube with an Oriental twist?

We found that the sense of multiple arrays resonates in East Asian culture, appearing in objects like water wheels, bamboo blinds, and lanterns. This inspired the creation of the elongated lamp resembling "churros."
