About Coffee Machine Key Visual Posters

Coffee Machine is a set of key visual posters created for a range of coffee makers. The posters move away from the leisurely lifestyle imagery common in coffee maker promotions and focus on long-standing heritage and German engineering. A beam of light links the past to the present in each scene. Four product series are given four themes: industrial components, technological innovations, global landmarks, and engineering marvels. Gears, circuit chips, miniature architecture and cosmic planets serve as visual metaphors. The scenes were built and rendered in 3D software.

Edward Lu's Coffee Machine Key Visual Posters engage sophisticated visual communication strategies that position domestic coffee preparation within aspirational frameworks spanning urban sophistication, mechanical mastery, technological advancement, and cosmic wonder, the quadriptych format allows comprehensive brand storytelling across multiple symbolic registers while maintaining cohesive visual identity through consistent product presentation, tonal palette, and lighting paradigm, the work demonstrates considerable technical accomplishment in three-dimensional rendering or composite photography, achieving photorealistic surface qualities across diverse materials including powder-coated metals, brushed finishes, transparent glass, and reflective components while maintaining absolute clarity of product form and feature visibility essential to commercial visualization, the chromatic restraint evident throughout the series, favoring near-monochromatic cool grays and blacks activated by strategic warm accents, creates visual sophistication that elevates the subject matter beyond typical product photography into the realm of conceptual advertising art, each environmental context appears meticulously crafted with extraordinary attention to detail whether rendering miniaturized architectural monuments, intricate mechanical assemblages, glowing circuit board topographies, or deep space vistas populated with contemplative figures, these backgrounds function simultaneously as symbolic frameworks and compositional counterpoints that amplify rather than compete with the central products, the lighting design demonstrates particular virtuosity in maintaining consistent three-dimensional modeling of the machines across radically different environmental contexts, each panel employing variations of three-quarter key lighting that preserves volume, material character, and hierarchical prominence while allowing environmental illumination to establish distinct atmospheric moods, the compositional architecture reveals sophisticated understanding of visual weight distribution and viewer eye-path management, positioning products along optimal sight-lines while background elements create recessive depth that rewards extended contemplation, thematically the work explores coffee preparation as a multivalent cultural practice simultaneously grounded in urban lifestyle aspiration, mechanical precision and craft heritage, contemporary technological integration, and transcendent daily ritual that opens pathways to imaginative possibility, the juxtaposition of sleek contemporary industrial design against fantastical environments suggests that premium domestic appliances function as portals to enhanced experiential realities, the surreal scale relationships, particularly evident in the architectural panel where the machine towers over miniaturized cityscapes, position coffee preparation as a commanding daily priority that literally overshadows other concerns, the mechanical panel's emphasis on visible engineering components celebrates craft, precision, and the sophisticated technology concealed within seemingly simple appliances, the circuit board environment engages contemporary smart-home integration while the cosmic setting elevates morning coffee from routine to contemplative pause within the vastness of human experience, the series invites viewers to reconsider their relationship with everyday domestic objects and recognize coffee preparation as a practice worthy of investment in premium equipment that brings both functional excellence and symbolic enrichment to daily life, viewers might contemplate which environmental metaphor most resonates with their personal coffee experience and what these surreal contexts reveal about the aspirational dimensions we project onto domestic rituals.

Unique Properties
The history of coffee machines dates back to the early 1900s. The theme of the visuals is the conveyance of German engineering excellence and its enduring legacy spanning over a hundred years.

To make the products stand out, the design diverged from the conventional communication approach that emphasizes a leisurely lifestyle, commonly seen in coffee maker promotions, by focusing on creativity rooted in the long-standing heritage and distinctive German engineering excellence.
Dimensions & Packaging
The original posters were designed at 3634px x 2045px, 72 dpi.

Production Technology
The scene is built and rendered in 3D softwares including 3DS and Rhino, and refined in Photoshop.
Design Challenge
The most challenging part was balancing the products' heritage with a modern, youthful expression and conveying the core product value precisely through visual metaphors.

The challenge lies in striking a balance between technical precision (e.g., chip structure) and emotional appeal (e.g., "world flavors") to fulfill both functional and cultural expectations of coffee machine users.
Project Duration
The project started in December 2024 and ended in April 2025.
Operation Flow
Visual symbolism is used in the designs:
Gears and circuit chips metaphorically represent "Hardcore Smart Extraction".
Miniature architectural landscapes symbolize "Global Flavors".
Cosmic planets embody "Premium Futurism".

The design uses layered narrative approach. A tiered storytelling structure links product offerings and attributes, strengthening the "Tech-Culture-Future" narrative arc.

Using multi-scale visuals (micro to macro), the design honors German craftsmanship and reimagines future coffee experiences, bridging technical precision with creative storytelling.
Research
Through research on varieties of coffee from around the world, we gained a deeper understanding of coffee and its machines. This allowed us to categorise four series into four unique themes: industrial components, technological innovations, global landmarks, and engineering marvels, infusing each line with a distinct identity while effectively differentiating their features and tiers.
Inspiration
The visual concept features a beam of light stretching from the past to the present, connecting history with modernity.

EQ300 transitions from ancient mechanics to today's refined craftsmanship.

EQ500 evolves from early integrated circuits to modern chips.

EQ700 journeys from the ancient Roman Colosseum to the modern Sydney Opera House.

EQ900 showcases the progression from one of the first coffee machines in the early 1900s to today's advanced countertop machine.
