About Commemorative Hands Sculpture
Commemorative Hands is a series of contemporary glass sculptures. Each work presents a different shape of the human hand. The series draws on themes such as love, migration, longing and separation, which leave lasting marks on human life. Most pieces are made of semi-transparent colorless cast glass, formed by kiln casting from wax models and hand molds at real size. Antique metal and wood parts are added to suit each story and memory. Some glass forms resemble paper letters, with writing added by carving. The sculptures are exhibited in galleries.

- Unique Properties
- "Commemorative Hands" is a series of contemporary glass sculptures. The works that make up this series reflect the different shapes of the hand figure, setting off from issues such as love, migration, longing and separation that leave significant marks in human life. The sculptures that make up the series are mostly semi-transparent colorless cast glasses. According to the difference of the story and the memory, it is completed with antique pieces such as metal and wood.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The sculptures were modeled in real sizes by hand molds. They are produced using advanced glass forming techniques. For this, the information obtained from academic and practical education was used. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to the packaging, taking into account the sensitivity of the glass. A rigid foam mold should be prepared to suit the job.

- Production Technology
- In this work series, glass was produced with the technique of kiln casting. First, a wax model was made and then the mold was taken and glass was poured. For the letter view, a paper form was given to the glass with the hot glass shaping technique, and writings were written on it by carving method. By performing the final finishing process, all glass parts are cold worked and made ready for joining with metal parts. With the help of a special adhesive used in glass and metal joining, the sculpture reaches its final shape.
- Design Challenge
- If glass material is preferred for a sculpture as an artistic expression method, it is necessary to know and apply it very well. Although it is well known as a material, glass is full of surprises. The most challenging part for "Commemorative Hands" was actually keeping all the parts firmly held together in a gentle form that would give the desired movement rather than the construction phase of the glass parts of the sculpture. In addition to the physical difficulty, I have been able to tell the thought story in a humorous way without telling the audience directly.
- Project Duration
- "Commemorative" is exhibited in different galleries. With different variations, the project continues to be specially produced by the artist.
- Operation Flow
- Apart from being exhibited in galleries as a sculpture, "Commemorative Hands" can be invited to meet on a common ground with different disciplines in the field of art and design, with both its narrative and formal features, and projects that make a difference. Many sectors such as cinema, theater and textile need the 3D creative thinking skills and experiences of plastic artists and designers, and different disciplines such as glass in the art sector need them to reach a certain audience.
- Research
- Academic knowledge and technical application practices from the past until 2016 were used in the construction of this sculpture.
- Inspiration
- The Commemorative Hands series is inspired by life experiences and life itself. In all the works in the series, a real story is depicted and transformed into glass sculptures by adding a surreal interpretation.
