About Easynav Infinity Surgical System

The design of Infinity is Visual Reflection of quality of product using unique form language which has also been optimized for manufacturing and cost effectiveness. Generally, the relevant market segment is filled with product that are designed using plastics to achieve difficult curves and form language which feels appealing to the user and comfortable to the patient. It had been a design challenge for the designer to create a unique form factor using only sheet metal and subsequent processes while also keeping in mind the cost for a unique product as such having low-volume production.

Unique Properties
The design ensures visual reflection of the quality of the product using unique form language while also being optimized for manufacturing and cost. It challenges the assumption that good curves and unique form language can only be achieved using processes like thermoforming, die casting, and so on. Infinity sets itself apart in the market with a unique form factor achieved using only sheet metal, a few bending, welding, and finishing processes.
Dimensions & Packaging
The dimensions are product dimensions excluding the height of the camera and monitor
Dimensions: 457.2mm x 245.5mm x 927.2 mm
Material : Stainless Steel, 2 mm in thickness
Processes used: Laser cutting, Sheet metal Bending, Lancing, Welding, Buffing and Powder coating

Production Technology
Infinity has Nerves of Steel, the product is made of sheet metal, Stainless Steel - to avoid any rusting, and has been optimized such that the manufacturing takes less time, and resources. The unique taper shape, curves along the body and the handle are achieved using modifications done to the bending tools and development techniques without any plastic components. Laser cutting, lancing, and bending operations are done following which welding, buffing, and powder coating is required.
Design Challenge
Most of the market in the surgical navigation segment has aesthetic forms that are manufactured using a combination of thermoformed plastics and sheet metal parts. Competing within the same segment while providing cost-effective solutions with unique design, premium experience, and without using plastics had been a challenge. The Interface had been created using a software with limited creative implementation capabilities so the design had to be optimized for fewer efforts and more impact.
Project Duration
The project started in October 2020 and has undergone three iterations and testing before reaching this final version in Feb 2022
Operation Flow
First, the product is assembled, sanitized, and made ready for the users to interact with. Then surgical data of the patient is added to generate a three dimensional model of the scans. Infinity allows for preoperative planning, enabling the surgeon to view the data and plan the course of surgery before making an incision. The system is then calibrated in relation to the body of the patient, to give accurate real time data for navigating toward the desired area with safety and ease.
Research
Qualitative Research was used to uncover areas of improvement in customer interaction, product safety, design language, overall experience, manufacturability, cost, and assembly of the product. After feedbacks and interviews with surgeons, OT staff, Team at HRS and experts from the domain, Investigator Triangulation had been used to validate the data points. Implementation of these insights into the design resulted in a Positive Change in the Perception of Product Quality hence Brand Positioning.
Inspiration
While working in the field of medical technology, customer satisfaction and the comfort of the patient is very important. Aesthetical beauty with a seamless product experience is an integral factor that helps achieve it. The previous model of the product had inherent quality and accuracy but lacked the visual factors to appeal and compete in the market. Hailing from a family of doctors, the empathy towards doctors and patients became a strong motive to re-design the product system.

Design Interview about Easynav Infinity Surgical System

Visual Reflection of quality of product using unique form language which is also optimized for manufacturing and cost-effectiveness. Generally, the market segment is filled with products designed using plastics or thermoforming to achieve difficult curves and form language that feels appealing to the user and comfortable to the patient. We have challenged the market by creating a unique form factor using sheet metal thereby optimizing the cost for such a product with low volume production.

The main focus was to build a unique product that challenges the assumption "good curves and unique form language can only be achieved using processes like thermoforming, die casting, and so on". Using only sheet metal, a few bending, welding, and finishing processes Infinity has set itself apart in the market.

Refining it further to ensure best possible Navigational experience during the surgery while also enhancing the System of products for the Patients undergoing the surgery.

It took me around 6 months to fully understand and design this product including the process of Surgical Navigation system, it’s internal components, Customer needs, client requirements and the vision for this product.

The design was a requirement of our Client Happy Reliable Surgeries Pvt. Ltd in the Product range of easyNav™ for Elite and Global customer segment.

The Design is being Produced by Happy Reliable Surgeries Pvt. Ltd which now own all the production rights for the design.

I am an Industrial Designer by Profession. While in the final year of my academics, I had the opportunity of designing this product as my Final year Graduation Project.

I had mentors from the industry of design and our company Director that helped influence the design of my work.

Surgeons and allied health professionals catering to image guided navigational surgeries using systems provided by HRS Navigation Pvt. Ltd.

The unique combination of Form, Material, Manufacturing techniques and Price-point

Infinity is supposed to be the best of all three versions of easyNav™ hence the name suggests that it is beyond just Aesthetic Elegance and Navigational accuracy.

CAD tools like Adobe XD, Adobe AI, Adobe PS, Solidworks, and rendering softwares.

I worked with application engineers, Clinical Business specialists, Product experts and managers and Quality head.

The technology ensures product is manufactured efficiently and with-in required budget.

For the product, Qualitative and quantitative research was conducted which was later analyzed to arrive at a brief for designing of this product.

Searching for low-volume Manufacturing capabilities were a challenge while also ensuring the design is aesthetic, lightweight and ships without damage.

The decision sprang forth from the desire to be acknowledged internationally.

I learned to detail the product for manufacturing since manufacturing is also a very integral part of the product.

Most of the things have been covered. Thank you.
