About Eclipse Bar Cabinet
Eclipse is a home bar cabinet designed for collectors of glassware. The cabinet is inspired by Art Deco, with rounded edges and embedded door handles. Inside, a double carousel allows easy bottle selection, while velvet-lined drawers and glass hanging holders hold a collection of more than 80 glasses. Eclipse is made of walnut veneer and darkened bronze and is topped with a marble worktop. The metalwork is produced in house, using darkening and bending techniques. The cabinet measures 120 cm wide, 60 cm deep and 195 cm high.
The Eclipse Bar Cabinet by KANTTARI represents a distinguished contribution to contemporary furniture design, demonstrating how functional storage pieces may transcend utilitarian purpose to achieve sculptural presence within interior environments. This work engages with longstanding traditions of cabinet-making while introducing formal innovations that position it within current discourse surrounding the intersection of craft heritage and industrial precision. The cylindrical form, unusual within a furniture typology typically defined by rectilinear construction, suggests the designer's interest in softening domestic geometries and introducing organic volumetric language into living spaces. The copper-toned surface treatment, achieved through what appears to be meticulous metalwork or sophisticated laminate application, references both historical bronze-working traditions and the contemporary appreciation for warm metallics within luxury interior schemes. One observes particular accomplishment in the seamless integration of the curved door panels, where the vertical seam reads as minimal intervention rather than structural interruption, preserving the monolithic impression essential to the design's visual impact. The oblong aperture serving as handle mechanism demonstrates thoughtful ergonomic consideration embedded within formal gesture, where the negative space simultaneously invites tactile engagement and provides compositional relief against the otherwise uninterrupted surface. The horizontal striations moving across the copper field create visual rhythm that activates the curved plane with subtle dynamism, preventing static reading while maintaining the meditative quality essential to pieces designed for contemplative living environments. The matte black plinth anchors the composition with geometric stability, introducing contrast that heightens appreciation for the warm metallic tones above. What might one discover upon opening these elegantly curved doors, and how does the anticipation of concealed contents contribute to our relationship with objects that promise revelation?

- Production Technology
- We sourced the finest materials, including walnut veneer and darkened bronze, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and durability. Our artisans meticulously crafted each component by hand, from the curved cabinet doors to the intricate bottle carousel mechanism.
In-house metalworking capabilities enabled us to customize the bronze exterior, employing techniques such as darkening and bending to achieve the desired finish. The marble worktop was carefully selected for its luxurious look and practicality. - Design Challenge
- The creative challenge of our project was to design a home bar cabinet that seamlessly integrates luxurious aesthetics with practical functionality, catering specifically to glass collectors with diverse collections. Several obstacles were encountered during development:
Historical Perspective: Balancing the timeless elegance of Art Deco design with modern functionality required careful consideration of historical design principles while innovating for contemporary needs.
Social Perspective: Understanding the evolving lifestyle trends and preferences of glass collectors within the context of modern living spaces was essential for creating a relevant and desirable product. - Project Duration
- The project started in September 2022 in Prague and finished in October 2023 in Riga, and was exhibited in design exhibition Design Isle in October 2023.
- Operation Flow
- By addressing the challenge of accommodating a diverse collection of over 80 glasses, our design offers unparalleled functionality and organization. The thoughtful arrangement of components, coupled with innovative features like the bottle carousel and glass hanging holders, ensures efficient utilization of space without compromising on aesthetics. This meticulous attention to detail and user-centric approach results in a home bar cabinet that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of glass collectors, providing a sophisticated solution for showcasing and accessing their prized possessions.
- Research
- Our Research Objectives were to understand the needs and preferences of glass collectors for a home bar cabinet. We interviewed the customer-collector himself but we also engaged with glass collectors from diverse backgrounds and demographics, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of user requirements. As result we identified key features desired by glass collectors, such as ample storage, ease of access, and elegant display options. Those insights guided the design process, informing decisions on layout, materials, and functionality.
- Inspiration
- This project was born from a deep appreciation for the timeless elegance of Art Deco design and a passion for creating functional yet luxurious furniture pieces. We aimed to blend classic aesthetics with modern functionality, catering to the discerning tastes of our clientele.
