About Evolution Lighting
Evolution is a collection of pendant and floor lamps designed for home interiors. The fabric lampshades have metal frames and sit on a metal base with a specially designed attachment. The lampshades rotate 360 degrees and remain stable at any angle. Rotating the lampshades changes both the appearance of the luminaire and the properties of the light. The metal base holds LEDs covered with frosted acrylic diffusers for soft lighting. The pendants hang on two metal cords for simple adjustment. The floor lamp has a compact marble base.
Evolution Lighting by Alexey Danilin emerges from a rich twentieth and twenty-first century tradition of biomorphic modernism that seeks to reconcile the geometric rationalism of industrial design with the organic irregularity and sensual appeal of natural forms, a lineage traceable through the sculptural furniture of Alvar Aalto and Eero Saarinen, the cellular forms of Verner Panton's lighting experiments, and the contemporary material explorations of studios working at the intersection of craft tradition and advanced manufacturing capabilities, the fixtures demonstrate accomplished formal resolution where engineering requirements, material constraints, and aesthetic aspiration achieve integrated expression, the overlapping petal configuration solves multiple design challenges simultaneously by diffusing and softening the central light source while creating visual interest through layered translucency, establishing a recognizable formal identity, and suggesting natural growth patterns that make the technological artifact feel approachable and emotionally resonant rather than coldly mechanical, the choice of warm illumination color temperature reveals sensitivity to human psychological response and residential context, as research in environmental psychology and circadian lighting consistently demonstrates that warmer color temperatures in the 2700-3000 Kelvin range promote relaxation and social intimacy while cooler temperatures support alertness and task focus, thus the fixtures seem calibrated for spaces of rest, conversation, and contemplation rather than productive labor, the formal vocabulary of petals radiating from a luminous center activates deep cultural associations with flowers as symbols of beauty, growth, renewal, and the ephemeral preciousness of living things, while the evident durability and technological sophistication of the executed design transforms these organic references into permanent sculptural presences, the presentation within severely minimalist architectural space suggests versatility and adaptability, implying that these fixtures could inhabit diverse interior contexts from residential living spaces to hospitality environments to gallery and retail settings, providing both functional illumination and sculptural punctuation, the staging choices reveal confidence in the design's ability to command attention and structure space through its formal presence alone without requiring elaborate contextual support, the relationship between the suspended pendant and the floor-mounted variant demonstrates systematic design thinking where a core formal concept generates a family of related solutions addressing different spatial and functional requirements, viewers encountering these fixtures might consider how contemporary lighting design increasingly transcends mere utility to offer aesthetic experience, emotional resonance, and symbolic meaning, how the objects with which we surround ourselves and through which we shape our luminous environments participate in constructing our sense of well-being, beauty, and connection to both natural and designed worlds, and how thoughtful design can honor both the rational geometric traditions of modernist clarity and the organic irregular beauty of natural forms, achieving synthesis rather than choosing between these enduring poles of design philosophy.

- Unique Properties
- The Evolution collection is a prime example of the concept of 'human-centered design'. The user first notice that the appearance of the luminaires can be changed by rotating the lampshades. And to create compositions from 1 or more products. But then the user's understanding of functionality develops. And they realize that by changing the arrangement of the lampshades it is possible not only to change the appearance of the luminaires, but also to change the properties of the light.

- Production Technology
- The lampshades are made of fabric with a metal frame. They are placed on a specially designed metal base with an ingenious attachment. This allows the lampshades to rotate 360 degrees, changing the design and lighting effects of the luminaire. The mounting allows the lampshades to be stable at any angle of inclination. The metal base contains high quality LEDs. They are covered with frosted acrylic diffusers to create a soft, pleasant light. The pendants are suspended on two metal cords, allowing users to adjust them to the desired position without twisting.
- Design Challenge
- The main technical challenge was to design a metal lamp body with fastenings for turning the fabric lampshades. So that the lampshade not only rotates along its radius, but also remains in a different position and does not change position under its own weight. To achieve this, the radii of the fixing elements have been minimized. This requires very precise manufacturing.
- Project Duration
- The project started in January 2023 in Moscow and finished in January 2024 in Moscow, and was exhibited in Interlight in September 2024.
- Operation Flow
- The collection includes pendants with different color schemes. This makes them suitable for different interiors and compositions. These LED luminaires have frosted diffusers to create soft, comfortable lighting in the home. The collection also includes a floor lamp with a compact and stable marble base for use in rooms of different sizes. The EVOLUTION collection offers design variation, a variety of lighting scenarios, soft lighting and color variety in a single original design solution.
- Research
- The main challenge of the creative search was to find a concrete idea for a transformer luminaire. So that the transformation would have both practical lighting properties and an interesting creative solution. Hundreds of pencil sketches were made for this task, showing different ways of transforming by turning, bending, folding and so on. As well as different variations of shapes.
- Inspiration
- Evolution can be seen not only in living species, but also in design. The collection of the same name is dedicated to the transformation of modern design. How the design of things around us is becoming more human-centered and friendly. The EVOLUTION collection can be easily modified as people's practical needs and visual preferences change.
