About Gait Analysis Robot Medical Health Measurement System

Gait Analysis Robot is a medical measurement system for walking motion analysis. The robot carries three-dimensional cameras and follows a subject at a fixed distance. The subject walks back and forth along a flat straight line of ten meters, such as a hospital corridor. The recorded data is sent to a cloud server and analyzed there. The accuracy is comparable to optical motion analysis systems used in research institutes. The aim is to make gait analysis widely available at low cost and to support early detection of diseases, rehabilitation and health maintenance.

Within the evolving landscape of medical device design, this gait analysis system emerges as a compelling synthesis of functional engineering and aesthetic consideration, reflecting contemporary approaches that recognize the psychological impact of clinical environments on patient wellbeing. The apparatus demonstrates fluency in the visual language of twenty-first century product design, where biomorphic curves and seamless surface transitions communicate technological advancement while simultaneously reducing the intimidating character historically associated with medical machinery. The designer appears to have engaged thoughtfully with principles of human-centered design, positioning the display screen at an angle that facilitates comfortable viewing for both standing practitioners and seated patients, while the sweeping base form suggests mobility and adaptability within clinical spaces. Chromatic choices prove particularly sophisticated in their restraint, the dominant white conveying sterility and professionalism expected in healthcare contexts, while strategic vermillion accents introduce warmth and visual orientation points that may assist users in identifying functional zones. The interface design visible on the elevated screen demonstrates commitment to clear data visualization, with schematic human figures and organized numerical displays suggesting systematic diagnostic capabilities. One might observe how the wheel assemblies, treated as sculptural elements rather than merely utilitarian components, contribute to an overall impression of technological capability married to refined aesthetic sensibility. The work participates in broader design conversations concerning the humanization of medical technology, where equipment increasingly acknowledges that patient comfort and confidence contribute to therapeutic outcomes. Viewers are invited to consider how design choices in clinical contexts might influence both practical functionality and the psychological experience of healthcare encounters.

Unique Properties
The robot track a subject and send walking analysis data to cloud database, enables measurement of even more items than before, and develops services as big data useful for medical care, rehabilitation, health maintenance and etc. It will be able to help early detection and prevention of diseases. It's a project that developing a system include the robot to perform accurate walking motion analysis widely and inexpensively, which could only be done with an expensive motion capture system.

Production Technology
This project has been advanced independent from the study and development of the measurement system, and is a collaborative project with the National Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Disabilities Research Institute in Japan. 3D cameras are mounted on a robot tracks a subject at a fixed distance, and it is possible to accurately measure the walking motion of a subject with the same accuracy as an optical motion analysis system in limited facilities such as research institutes.
Project Duration
since October 2019 in Japan and keep on going.
Operation Flow
To record walking movements, the subject only needs to walk back and forth on a flat straight line of 10 m, such as in a corridor in hospitals, and the recorded data is analyzed on a cloud server.
It based on the elements derived by machine learning from the accumulated walking data of all disease patients. The project planed to provide through web services for early detection and prevention of diseases, for diagnosis and medical purposes in hospitals and for general health promotion purposes.
Inspiration
In medical research, it is known walking movements characteristic of patients appear due to various diseases. It has potential to be used for early detection and prevention of diseases and for rehabilitation as new diagnostic means. If accurate motion analysis can be realized at low cost for wide range of items, it will be help for various purposes as a highly reliable medical database and possible to extend healthy life expectancy and greatly contribute to the world-wide super-aging society.
