About Greyder V Package Design

Greyder V is a shoe box designed to carry and store footwear without a plastic bag. Integrated handles allow the box to be carried by hand after purchase. Two compartments hold the shoes in a V shape, which makes unpacking simple. The V form is inspired by the movement of walking, when one foot passes the other. The box is made from carton using a grinding method, and the materials are recyclable and biodegradable. The compact vertical shape also allows the box to be kept as storage for a spare pair in an office.

Within the evolving landscape of contemporary packaging design, Musa Çelik's Greyder V Package Design emerges as a compelling meditation on the intersection of functional necessity and experiential theater. The work positions itself within a tradition of premium product presentation that transforms the act of acquisition into ritual, suggesting affinities with the considered unveiling ceremonies of luxury goods while maintaining an athletic dynamism appropriate to its contents. The designer demonstrates sophisticated command of material semiotics, employing carbon fiber patterning that immediately activates associations with high-performance engineering, motorsport precision, and contemporary technological achievement. This textural choice elevates humble corrugated substrate through visual transformation, inviting tactile curiosity even before physical interaction. The chromatic strategy proves equally considered, establishing a dialogue between the cool industrial authority of graphite gray and the warm energetic optimism of golden yellow, a pairing that suggests both serious technical accomplishment and accessible vitality. The butterfly-wing opening mechanism represents the design's most innovative gesture, reconceiving the shoebox as a stage upon which footwear becomes protagonist, presented with the reverence typically reserved for jewelry or collectible objects. This theatrical deployment transforms the consumer into audience member, participant in a choreographed moment of revelation that extends brand engagement beyond mere transaction. The elastic tensioning elements serve dual purposes, securing contents practically while creating visual dynamism through their diagonal trajectories across the golden planes. Typography maintains appropriate restraint, allowing structural innovation to command attention while ensuring brand recognition through strategic placement and confident scale. One might observe how this design anticipates the unboxing culture of contemporary consumer experience, where the journey from sealed package to revealed product constitutes shareable content and memorable encounter. The work invites viewers to consider how packaging might function as the first chapter of product narrative rather than mere protective afterthought.

Production Technology
The package is produced by grinding method from carton. 100% recyclable and biodegradable materials have been used.
Design Challenge
The packages had to be produced a good workmanship from a material of quality since objective was to make the box to be kept by the consumer to use for a long time. Faced with 2 important challenges in this process.

1- Transportation of the packages from the package producer to the shoe producer.
2- Packages being covered with dust during the residence time in the storage of the shoe producer.
Project Duration
The project began in January 2017. It took 1 year to develop the design and it is been launched in Turkey in July 2018.
Operation Flow
Plastic bags were used for carrying shoe boxes before. The need for plastic bags for carrying, keeping and storing has been met with this design. This resulted in less plastic waste than before. Especially, we observed that businesswomen are keeping a spare shoe in their office. Due to the small space it takes, this package also became a frequently used furniture in means of storage.
Research
Face-to-face interviews were held with 10 women working in the office. Questions were asked about buying, carrying and using shoes and the problems that this design could solve were identified:

1- Packaging the shoes with plastic bags in the sales points.
2- Standard shoe boxes being unable to meet the needs of people who keep a spare shoe in their offices.

Therefore, in order to solve these problems, a design has been made that offers both practical portability and creative storage.
Inspiration
As people walk, one foot heels on the other. This creates a "V" shape. This movement also inspired product packaging. When the package is opened, the shoes form a "V" shape, just like walking.
