Grand Interview about Laround Website
I created a map illustration based on the downtown area of Los Angeles. The map has a minimalist aesthetic, showing the general layout of the city. The lines and circles on the website symbolize movement and evoke a sense of travel and exploration.
Since the target audience for this website was young adults, I chose to use bold, trendy typography combined with map illustration to capture their attention and create a modern, engaging experience.
I aimed to create a fun and interactive experience for users by incorporating hover effects on images. When users hover over initially monochrome photos, they transition into vibrant colors, encouraging interaction and adding an element of surprise and engagement to the user journey.
The illustration of the map was slightly adjusted and proportionally resized to ensure a responsive design for desktop, tablet, and mobile.
I achieved the balance by focusing on user-centric design, leveraging white space to enhance readability and reduce clutter, using bold typography to establish a clear visual hierarchy, and incorporating high-quality images to create visual interest.
I used Adobe Illustrator to create an illustration of the Downtown LA map, abstracting the real map into a minimalist design that highlights the city's key features.
This recognition has reinforced the importance of innovation and user-centric design in creating digital experiences for tourism. It has encouraged me to continue exploring unique visual languages and interactive elements that enhance user engagement and make travel interfaces more intuitive and memorable. The award has also inspired me to push creative boundaries and focus on designs that not only meet user needs but also evoke a sense of exploration and discovery.
The decision to streamline the booking process was guided by user research that highlighted the importance of simplicity and speed in the decision-making process for travelers. Users expressed frustration with complex, multi-step bookings, so I focused on minimizing steps, simplifying forms, and reducing distractions to create a more efficient flow. Additionally, insights from usability testing showed that users preferred clear calls to action and an intuitive interface, which influenced the design choices to make the booking process straightforward and fast.
The full-screen gallery views and videos were strategically placed to highlight key moments of the tours without adding clutter. I used clean, simple controls and incorporated ample white space around the media to maintain focus on the content.
Looking back at the evolution of Laround Website, one key learning would be to further prioritize personalization and user context. Today, I would focus more on incorporating AI-driven recommendations based on user preferences or past behavior to enhance the travel planning experience.
