About Luna Ultrasound Device
Luna is an ultrasound device designed for use in both large hospitals and small clinics. The full-touch control panel can be adapted for up to five different users by changing the size and position of the buttons. An internal metal structure makes the device strong and allows the hardware to be upgraded without replacing the whole system. Each part can be maintained separately. The transducer holders can be repositioned according to how often each transducer is used, and the silicone cups are easy to clean. The arm can be adjusted in height.
Mohammadsina Gavili's Luna Ultrasound Device, honored with the A' Design Award in the Medical Devices and Medical Equipment category, exemplifies the contemporary convergence of advanced diagnostic technology with thoughtful human-centered design principles that characterize the most progressive developments in healthcare apparatus. The device emerges from a design philosophy that recognizes medical equipment as participating in profoundly significant human experiences, particularly in obstetric contexts where expectant families first encounter visual evidence of new life, demanding an aesthetic approach that communicates both technological competence and emotional sensitivity. The formal resolution achieves this delicate balance through careful material selection and surface treatment, with the luminous white central column suggesting purity and clinical assurance while the darker operational zone conveys technological sophistication and professional authority. Compositionally, the design demonstrates sophisticated understanding of visual hierarchy, with the elevated display positioned at optimal viewing height for both practitioner and patient, while the angled control interface facilitates comfortable extended operation without postural strain. The integrated storage solutions, including dedicated probe holders and a translucent gel container, reveal considered attention to clinical workflow and the practical choreography of examination procedures. The cruciform base with its four directional caster assemblies communicates mobility and adaptability, essential characteristics for equipment that must navigate varied clinical environments while maintaining stability during delicate diagnostic procedures. The Luna Ultrasound Device invites contemplation of how design excellence in medical contexts extends beyond functional adequacy to embrace the emotional dimensions of healthcare encounters, transforming necessary medical procedures into experiences characterized by dignity, reassurance, and technological confidence. One might consider how the formal qualities of medical equipment shape patient perceptions of care quality and institutional competence, and how thoughtful design serves healing purposes that transcend purely diagnostic functions.

- Unique Properties
- Luna is designed with every user in mind. The full-touch control panel makes it possible to customize the interface for fitting up to 5 different user's specific needs. Its instruction allows for the upgrade of the hardware system without having replaced the entire device. Each part can be maintained separately, without affecting the whole system. The probe holders can be shifted overbased on the intensity of probes usage. the device is optimized to tolerate shipping and environmental damages.

- Production Technology
- The device's internal metal structure makes it stronger and allows it to be upgraded with less money and time wasted.
- Project Duration
- The project started in January 2020 in Tehran and finished in November 2020 in Tehran
- Operation Flow
- Luna uses a deep-learning system, AI, and AR to improve the efficiency of medical imaging systems. Due to its full-touch control panel, it can be customized by changing the size and location of buttons or minimizing those that aren't required. The separatable transducer receptacles provide two options with two or four transducers based on the customer's order. The arm’s up/down mechanism enables height adjustment. the silicon probe-holders cups provide easy cleaning.
- Research
- The collaborative design process engages users in a wide range of activities during the process of information gathering, creation, research, design, and evaluation. One of the most significant parts of the collaborative design process is the product feedback cycle, during which the output of each system or product designed as a prototype by real users is tested and evaluated in specific courses with members of the R&D team. And the feedback obtained is used in the redesign process. In the designing process of luna ultrasound, the feedback loop played an important role in redesigning the whole device to reach the best possible solution.
- Inspiration
- Luna is an ultrasound system designed on the orders of Med Fanavaran Plus. The company requested a cost-effective Ultrasound that competes with worldwide models, meets the needs of Iranian society and is suitable for use in both large hospitals and small clinics. The aim was to design a market demand ultrasound device that has a unique identity and form matched with the corporate image.
