About Meduse Sculpture Lamp

Meduse is a sculptural lamp inspired by marine habitats. Each piece combines Raku ceramic with blown Murano glass tentacles. The lamp is suitable for indoor and outdoor use and creates light and shadow effects on nearby walls. Multicolored LED lighting can be adjusted with a remote control. The ceramic body is modeled in refractory clay, dried, fired, glazed and fired again at 930 degrees Celsius, then removed from the oven while still hot. The resulting thermal shock creates a crazed surface with metallic and iridescent reflections.

Unique Properties
Global design and local identities, they are collector's pieces.
Two identities, Peru and Italy two different cultures highly integrated in the Medusa lamps, after a process of deconstruction and liberation from history for giving space to a new syncretic language.
Integration of two materials only ceramic Peru and Murano glass, harmonized thanks to the reflections of multicolored Led lighting.
Raku process during the heat shock, the flames and the oxygen reduction method at 930 degrees celsius, are decisive for both the craquelure decorative effect and metallic and iridescent reflections.

Production Technology
After the modelling with refractory clay, I begin a deconstruction process of the traditional shape, a 20 day long drying process begins. I go on with the first cooking at 950 degrees celsius, the glazing process and the second cooking into a Raku oven at 930 degrees celsius. The object is removed still white-hot from the oven. Arrangement of the Led lighting system and finally the insertion of the Murano blown glass tentacles.
Design Challenge
Take the pieces out of the oven at 940 degrees celsius and quickly manage the thermal shock in three minutes.
The integration of the glass tentacles on the ceramic base.
Project Duration
Modeled with clay: 12 days
Drying: 20 days
Blown glass processing: 7 days
Location: Lido of Venice and Murano,Italy
Operation Flow
The object can be used as an Indoor and Outdoor Lamp. The lamp is suitable for creating new atmospheres with light and shadow effects on the wall. The user can interact by changing different colors using the remote control.
Research
The goal is to create lamps that integrate Art and Design. The method is transversal by integrating two techniques ceramics with Murano glass; Through the Deconstruction of art, a process of liberation from the traditional historical form begins to give way to a new syncretic language. Two readings: Fusion of different techniques and cultures and Safeguarding the oceans, a tropicalization of the Mediterranean is occurring. The lamp has had a positive impact in Milan and in the VeniceGlassWeek 2020
Inspiration
The Marine Habitat, I conceive my works as reflections of a recreated nature, the connection between nature and culture is a constant in my work. I work across different disciplines.I began a path of alienation from the Traditional shape in order to give way to a new syncretic language by the deconstruction of the art.
The work communicates two levels of interpretation:
Fusion and integration of two cultures, Peru and Italy.
Safeguarding seas and oceans: a Tropicalization of the Mediterranean sea is occurring.
