About Neptune Pendant

Neptune is a pendant designed as a statement jewelry piece. Asymmetrical sweeping loops form an infinity motif inspired by planetary rings and ocean tides. A central pear-cut aquamarine anchors the structure, and brilliant-cut diamonds are flush-set along the arcs. The open geometry allows light to enter from all sides, so the stones catch light as the wearer moves. The recommended material is high-polished 18kt white gold. The form is divided into three components, which reduces the weight to 10.9 grams and eases polishing, gem setting and welding.

Alexia Ciaudo's Neptune Pendant exemplifies the continuing vitality of contemporary jewelry design as a discipline that bridges sculptural artistic expression and functional adornment, engaging with longstanding traditions of precious metalwork while articulating a distinctly modern formal vocabulary characterized by fluid organic geometries and refined material restraint. The composition demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how curvilinear elements can create dynamic visual movement within a vertical format, as the interlocking bands sweep in graceful arabesques that guide the eye through continuous looping pathways, generating a sense of elegant motion and rhythmic flow despite the work's physical stasis. The chromatic strategy operates within a deliberately limited cool palette dominated by the silvery luminosity of polished white gold or platinum, punctuated by the crystalline brilliance of diamonds and centered upon a pear-shaped aquamarine whose pale blue coloration evokes associations with water, sky, clarity, and tranquility. This gemstone choice carries particular resonance given the pendant's titular reference to Neptune, the Roman deity governing the seas, creating a symbolic alignment between material properties, color associations, mythological reference, and the fluid wavelike character of the metalwork itself. The technical execution reveals considerable craftsmanship in the precise fabrication of the curving metal elements, the secure mounting of multiple gemstones in varied settings including bezel and prong configurations, and the achievement of a flawless mirror polish that maximizes the metal's inherent reflectivity and precious character. The creation of actual three-dimensional depth through overlapping planes distinguishes this work from flatter jewelry designs, as the bands project forward and recede backward to generate sculptural volume that rewards viewing from multiple angles and responds dynamically to changing light conditions and wearer movement. The compositional structure suggests possible influences ranging from Art Nouveau's organic curvilinear vocabulary to mid-century modern jewelry's sculptural ambitions to contemporary minimalism's emphasis on essential form and negative space as active compositional elements. The piece occupies an interesting position within jewelry history as both a continuation of established traditions in fine precious jewelry and an innovative exploration of how abstract sculptural form can be translated into wearable scale and function. One might observe how the pendant's elongated vertical proportions and graceful descending motion would interact with the human body when worn, creating a relationship between static object and living form, between precious frozen geometry and breathing organic presence, inviting contemplation of jewelry's unique status as art that adorns, moves with, and responds to the wearer's physical presence and how such intimate scaled works mediate between personal expression, social signaling, aesthetic pleasure, and the enduring human impulse to transform precious materials into objects of beauty.

Unique Properties
This pendant merges the ocean’s fluid energy with the airy dance of the stars into a bold silhouette evocative of a mysterious marine or celestial creature. Asymmetrical sweeping loops create a sophisticated infinity motif, capturing the powerful rhythm of planetary rings and tides in motion. At their heart, a central gemstone acts as a focal point, anchoring the structure with a deep, peaceful presence. Flush-set diamonds along the arcs mimic sunlight dancing on water or shimmering stars.

Production Technology
Neptune is engineered via high-precision CAD, optimized for lost-wax casting. To honor the design's spirit, the recommended realization is high-polished 18kt white gold for a mirror-like finish with a central pear-cut aquamarine and brilliant-cut diamonds. The diamonds are flush-set into the sweeping arcs and the main body to achieve a seamless shimmering wake and a sleek modern feel.
Design Challenge
The challenge was to create an intricate statement structure that remains lightweight and practical for production. The solution involved a strategically voided geometry, splitting the design into three components. This modular approach reduced the final weight to only 10.9g in 18kt gold and significantly improved access for precision polishing and gem-setting. Integrated joints allow for fast, easy welding, bridging high-end complexity with practical, workshop-friendly craftsmanship.
Project Duration
The Neptune pendant was developed as a flagship concept for Noble Code Design, a jewelry design studio based in Geneva, Switzerland. The project transitioned from conceptual research to final rendering in 2025. The design reached a global audience when it was officially selected for exhibition at the Digital Jewelry Week in October 2025 in Milan, Italy.
Operation Flow
Neptune is designed as a statement pendant that interacts dynamically with light and body movement. Its airy silhouette allows it to rest gracefully against the wearer, providing a bold look without the weight of traditional heavy jewelry. The carefully placed openings ensure that light enters from all sides, causing the central gemstone and the "shimmering wake" of diamonds to sparkle from every angle. This creates a rhythmic, living glow that changes as the wearer moves through different environments.
Research
Research focused on engineering digital models to streamline physical workshop workflows. Through direct collaboration with craftsmen, objectives prioritized polishing access, welding efficiency, and gem-setting tolerances. Methodology involved iterative weight balancing to ensure cost-efficiency for small and medium-sized workshops. Results yielded a three-part modular assembly that simplifies production. This research empowers jewelers of all sizes to create outstanding, high-end pieces in a time-efficient way, bridging digital precision with traditional craftsmanship.
Inspiration
Neptune explores two unfathomable frontiers: the silent oceanic abyss and the cosmic reaches of deep space. Inspired by the duality of its namesake—the Roman god of the seas and the distant gas giant—the design explores the shared mystery of these unknown worlds. It is not just a pendant, but a talisman for the explorer, reminding us that whether we look down into the water or up at the stars, some infinite wonder still stands before us.
