About Spring Multifunctional Chair

Spring is a multifunctional wooden chair designed for small rooms. Spring transforms with a single push, through built-in compression springs. The same piece can serve as a chair, as a table or as a standing table for events. The form is inspired by a flower bud that opens like a blossom. The main material is oak wood in natural and white colors. Wooden sheets are layered and then cut into circular pieces. The compression springs are made of aluminum. All sizes follow standard human ergonomics, so the furniture saves space in compact homes.

Within the contemporary landscape of furniture design, Navid Ghandili's Spring Multifunctional Chair emerges as a thoughtful meditation on form, function, and the enduring human desire for adaptable living environments. The design demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of volumetric composition, employing the cylinder as primary generative geometry while introducing subtle variations through stacking, scale modulation, and strategic material transitions that transform a fundamental geometric primitive into a family of related yet distinct functional objects. The warm material palette, dominated by natural oak surfaces and cream-toned exterior wrapping, suggests an affinity with Scandinavian design traditions that have long privileged the honest expression of natural materials, the celebration of wood grain character, and the pursuit of democratic beauty through restrained formal vocabulary. Technical accomplishment manifests in the seamless integration of disparate functional requirements within unified sculptural forms, the curved cutaway revealing cushioned seating speaks to ergonomic consideration without compromising visual coherence, while the flat oak surfaces provide practical utility for display and daily use. The live-edge treatment on certain pieces introduces controlled naturalistic irregularity that counterbalances the geometric precision of the cylindrical volumes, suggesting dialogue between human fabrication and organic material origin. Thematically, the work appears to explore questions of spatial efficiency and visual calm, proposing furniture that serves multiple purposes while maintaining the contemplative quietude increasingly valued in domestic environments. The staging context, with its carefully curated accessories including flowering branches and circular artwork, positions the design within broader conversations about biophilic integration and the role of natural elements in fostering wellbeing. The circular motifs recurring throughout the composition, from furniture form to background artwork, establish visual rhythm while potentially evoking associations with wholeness, cyclical renewal, and the seasonal reference embedded in the design name itself. Viewers might consider how such furniture transforms the relationship between object and space, inviting reflection on what we ask our domestic environments to provide.

Research
Achieve a design with more functionality while taking up less space was this research's priority. Living in crowded cities and Increasing population has made living rooms smaller. Due to the lack of space for furniture, by designing multifunctional appliances users can reclaim these occupied spaces and make small spaces seem not too small.
