About Villa Bianca Private House

The project consists of partial reconstruction and complete visual transformation of an existing house built in pseudo-traditional style. The main idea has been to achieve the exactly opposite effect: to have a contrasting, memorable, minimalistic and contemporary architecture. The biggest challenge of the project has been to reduce the cluster of geometries and to emphasize the constructive principle of the building by making some spatial and organizational improvements of the interior.

Within the tradition of Mediterranean modernism, this residential work by Alexander Yonchev demonstrates sophisticated mastery of architectural reduction, where the elimination of superfluous elements amplifies the experiential power of essential forms, light, and material. The facade composition achieves remarkable visual poetry through its seemingly simple arrangement of white-clad volumes, yet closer examination reveals nuanced formal relationships between the dominant planar surfaces and their carved negative spaces. The architect appears to engage with phenomenological concerns, orchestrating the interplay between permanent built geometry and ephemeral natural phenomena as dancing shadows from nearby vegetation create ever-changing surface drawings that animate the pristine planes throughout the day. Technical accomplishment manifests in the precise panel jointing that maintains consistent horizontal rhythm while accommodating the complex volumetric intersections where masses meet and separate. The chromatic restriction to pure white proves deceptively complex, revealing through natural illumination a full spectrum of tonal variations from brilliant sun-struck highlights to cool shadowed recesses where reflected sky color introduces subtle azure undertones. The work seems to reference both vernacular Mediterranean building traditions with their lime-washed surfaces and twentieth-century modernist aspirations toward architectural purity, yet synthesizes these influences into a distinctly contemporary expression. Careful attention to human scale appears in the sculptural furniture elements that punctuate the courtyard, their organic cylindrical forms establishing welcoming proportion against the architectural monumentality. One might contemplate how this dwelling achieves tranquility through restraint, inviting meditation on the relationship between architectural permanence and natural transience.

Production Technology
The house is made of concrete structure and brick walls. Exterior cladding is done entirely in one material: large format white tiles. Light grey tiles are used for the exterior pavement. The interior pavement is done in microcement.
Design Challenge
The biggest challenge of the project has been to reduce the cluster of geometries of the existing house and to emphasize the constructive principle of the building by making some spatial and organizational improvements of the interior.
Project Duration
The project started in September 2021 in Sozopol and finished in June 2022.
Operation Flow
In terms of organisation, the three story house, has one big common area, which includes a living room, a kitchen and a dining room. There are also four bedrooms, four bathrooms, two toilets as well as storage and service rooms. The furnishing with its plastic, abstract and non-standard forms has been carefully selected to create the overall feeling of being into an art gallery.
Inspiration
The guiding idea of this project has been to create a light, elegant and ethereal atmosphere, dominated by the sea view and the constantly changing colours of the surrounding nature. Both the interior and the exterior have been decided in nuances of the white with the only colourful touch being the works of art present in the house.
