About Giorgio Caporaso

Italian-born architect and furniture designer Giorgio Caporaso graduated in Architecture specialising in Industrial Design and Furnishing at Politecnico di Milano. In 1997 he opened his own studio devoted to architectural design as well as, product, furniture and interior design for businesses and for private commissions. Showing a great interest in eco-friendly projects, Caporaso began his study and exploration into sustainably designed products and furniture. Caporaso’s works have been exhibited in major international trade fairs, exhibitions and specialised fairs. He has won many prestigious awards and his projects have been published in several international architectural and design books and magazines.

Interview with Giorgio Caporaso

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
Things working always fascinated me, but my interest in design started when I attended University studying Architecture
What is "design" for you?
Design is anticipating questions to come exploring possible solutions
What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
I often choose eco-friendly materials and technologies with a low environmental impact, but for me every material has many interesting features
What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
In general, I feel contrasting emotions. It depends on the stage of the project.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
In my opinion a designer has to work conscientiously without superficiality
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
Maybe in the future design will try many different ways. All of them will be absolutely thrilling.
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
A strong inspiration comes from the curiosity of observing our changing society
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
I come from Italy and I live in Italy. The culture of my Country influences me, but I think that this influence has becoming lighter and lighter because of the increasing mix of different cultures.
Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
I've already realized a multitasking table with a bacterial filter and an essences diffuser for my 'Ecodesign Collection'. I've also realized objects made with bioplastic. I'm sure I will continue this research.
