Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
I have a Master Degree in Architecture and Product design, but before that I studies traditional Chinese painting for years. I started my own studio in Taipei in 2007. In 2010, I Set up Chu Chih-Kang Space Design Co., Ltd. in Shenzhen. This year (2016) I move my office to Kaohsiung and Shanghai.
How did you become a designer?
I would say it is my choice. Since I was a kid, I love to draw and I love to ask questions. Until now I still like to ask questions and love to solve them. To me, designers are people who could solve problems in life.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
I would say it is my choice. Since I was a kid, I love to draw and I love to ask questions. Until now I still like to ask questions and love to solve them. To me, designers are people who could solve problems in life.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
I like any projects as long as it is interesting. To design a bookstore was my dream for years. I was lucky to have a chance to design Fansguo Bookstore in Chengdu last year. My next dream is to design a temple or church.

I believe everyone is unique. The most important thing is to be brave, and honest.

The value of good design is to solve problems for people. This is the reason why people should invest it, because good design is for solving problems, and make higher value.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
There is a list. But on the top of the list is a monument or a memorial, which could really touch people
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
The secret is to find out what the clients really want. I would not just follow the generally used recipe. I’d like to make a decent meal with simple ingredients, and just for the customer.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
To find out the authentic factors of a space. To listen to the real needs of people.
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
To find out the real needs for the clients. To solve the problems with our profession in design for them.
