Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
We major is Fine Arts. We used to want to become a good artist, but this idea changed after graduating from college, because we accessed spatial design by chance and thought it to be interesting and of great help for our easel painting and spatial space installation works of art. Then later, we designed some residential and real estate projects, which gained a lot of popularity and won some good reputation in the industry, so we therefore switched toward this direction and became a designer.
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
Expressing faith and cherishing the soul through space with undying spirituality as part of its ultimate spiritual journey, Beijing Fenghemuchen Space Design is a design company that pushes for cultural extension and artistic communication while fully respecting spiritual creativity as well as the balanced relationship between man and space.
What is "design" for you?
Design represents a sort of life that is full of art and imagination.
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
Sagrada Familia by Antoni Gaudi. This building draws quite some of its shapes from natural forms, and displays from its interior to exterior both imagination and holy and pure sacredness.
What was the first thing you designed for a company?
We begin with studying its neighboring environment, its requirements and positioning, and its strengths and weaknesses. Next, we would determine the design style and the plan layout.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
Try our best to combine well the space and the natural environment.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
We believe the design field is to develop towards being people-oriented, and towards integration and symbiosis between human and nature.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
We participated in Venice Design 2018 this year. Our project, The Fire Of Holy, is exhibiting in Venice from May to November in 2018. The next exhibition is no plan now.
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
From nature, life, and culture. Keep on learning to feed our creativity. May be everything.
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
Our design stresses on combining humanities and nature. We wish to do more in the design that combines well the space and the natural environment. Work diligently, be mindful of every detail in design, and enjoy design and work.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
Vancouver, Canada. Yes, it is. The cultural heritage will not only gives us sources of inspirations but also stifles the thoughts.
What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
Respecting for designers' thoughts. A good designer provides his client with a satisfactory design.
Can you talk a little about your design process?
We will deeply understand the customers requirements, and then do an accurate positioning for project. Then we will discuss, conceive and design the project. Further complete and execute the project after communicating with the clients.
What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
We like and collect three lamps from America in the 1950s and two tea tables from Indonesia.
Can you describe a day in your life?
Our daily life is actually very simple. We usually walk in the wild, do design and paint during the day while meet and communicate with company colleagues and Party A on the project in the evening. We also need to take care of our children.
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
Design is interesting and makes the ambiance better and more comfortable but it also spends a lot of time in our life.
What was your most important job experience?
The Fire of Holy Spirit. Because this design was very pure to find the inner spiritual pursuit and belief of people. It was pure without any business purpose at all.
What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
The design respects nature more, coexist with nature. It's our wish.
What are your future plans? What is next for you?
I wish future designs will respect nature more, coexist with nature, get rid of human arrogance and self-importance, and become humble designs.
Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
Yes, we work as a team. Muchen Zhang and I were responsible for working out plans, with others tasked to flesh out and follow through them.

After graduated from university,, we designed some residential and real estate projects, which gained a lot of popularity and won some good reputation in the industry, so we therefore switched toward this direction and became a designer.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
Our design is carried out in line with respecting nature and the environment, showcase cultural literacy and spiritual pursuit behind the space. mainly in a way of ‘seclusion ’. That is to reduce human intervention, whilst accentuating nature, keeping a mentality of humbleness to the environment. An excellent design must have souls. We infiltrate design into our lives. Let the form of this design reveal itself faintly. What we are trying to do is to make design disappear and let it go back to humanity itself. This is also a process that makes tangible into intangible.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
There is an opportunity to release our imaginary space, which is exciting for us.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
Learn from our failures.we have no any planning for our future, but we believe God will lead us forward. We hope to be able to get the opportunity to design a church. It is not only our dream, but also in connection with our beliefs.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
Feel the life and full of passion to design, constantly self-denial, self-transcendence.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
Thinking about design projects and art works can't just be think about the form, more importantly it's to think about that let the space filling the soul. This is a process that makes tangible design intangible. This is what we think of as the highest state.
What is your day to day look like?
We live a simple life every day. Think about the design or walk outside during the day, take care of the child and meeting with the company in Beijing at night. We also go to the church on weekend.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
We focus on the needs of current society, but we don't pursue state of art design trends.
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
Design quality is reflected in whether the design works showcase cultural literacy and spiritual pursuit behind the space. An excellent design must have souls.
How do you decide if your design is ready?
Every corner of the space has already presented the perfect state, the primary and secondary relations in the space also dealt with very reasonable, the mood in the space also expressed fully. At this point, the space design can be finished.
Who is your favourite designer?
We seek inspiration and absorb nutrients more from the realm of art. The artists we admire are more in number than the designers we admire, and these include the ancient Chinese artists Badashanren (pseudonym for Zhu Da) and Xuwei as well as the Spanish Salvador Dali, Max Beckmann, representative figure of German Expressionism, and others.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
We use artistic angle to think; to stand in the angle of the Christian faith to observe the world and our life state. We also on our's eastern culture background to locate our own aesthetic direction.
Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?
We focused on integrating life into our design, allowing our spiritual design to be absorbed into nature. Our ultimate pursuit is to appreciate, embrace and consider nature in our designs.
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
Design a novel, quality space that should be capable to maximize customer benefits and truly help make their dreams come true. In the meantime, it is our hope to showcase feelings of holiness, simplicity and intangibility in every space we design, thus reflecting the supreme spirit of God through our space.

A good designer provides his client with a satisfactory design, while a great designer understands himself by the design done for his client and uses his design to elevate and change people’s aesthetic faculties and spiritual taste.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
Design is productivity. A good design changes the mentality and finds the value in environment and space. Everybody may appreciate better the beauty of life from design.

The clients who appreciate our design and have a very high requirement for design style and taste.
