I am a final year design student pursuing Masters in Product Design from IIT Kanpur. I have worked on a diverse range of projects in national as well as International level. I have experienced work with people of different backgrounds and talents. I love to break the gap between design and engineering. And my technical background in mechanical engineering has always helped me in making feasible designs. I believe good designs are simple and intuitive solutions based on strong User research blended with innovation. My experience not just end with academic projects but also I have professional industrial experience from well reputed engineering as well as design industries. And more than all these things I love to see smile on peoples face when it comes to User Experience.

Interview with Sachin N P

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I love to break the gap between design and engineering. And my technical background in mechanical engineering has always helped me in making feasible designs. I believe good designs are simple and intuitive solutions based on strong User research blended with innovation.
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
I am a final year design student pursuing Masters in Product Design from IIT Kanpur. I have worked on a diverse range of projects in national as well as International level. I have experienced work with people of different backgrounds and talents. I have professional industrial experience from well reputed engineering as well as design industries like UX Studio at Robert Bosch, India.
What is "design" for you?
I believe design lies in everything that makes a user don't let think of its design. The design should be always like a fluid for a user that just flows flawlessly.
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
I would like to work on products with social relevance, Home appliances, playing around with forms, furniture design.
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
One design specifically close to my heart is ZO-e. ZO-e is designed to satisfy the growing needs of aesthetics and style, and she also perfectly fits into the existing traffic and transportation system.
When do you feel the most creative?
My creativity churns out whenever I notice that there is a necessity for a change in the way we interact with the real world.
Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
I am a person who believes that functionality is the most important aspect of any design. I feel if a product is not able to serve what it is meant to be, its a failure.
What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
I often possess an emotion very similar to a woman who has given birth to her baby after a long waiting.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
Designer has a huge responsibility over the society and the people. He actually has the ability to understand people and can communicate with the technological crowd. He stays as a bridge between people and technology which reflects over his designs
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
I am from a background where culture is deep in our roots. I am from a country which has vast and diverse in culture tradition and emotion. Where else should a designer go for his inspiration?
What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
All the companies who actually follows intense user centric design process.
What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
Nail cutter, Cigarette box, perfume bottles, cafe racer bike collection
Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
According to me design is not only about creativity and innovation but also is predominantly about failures, iterations and time management
How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
An approx of three to four months depending on the functional complexity and learning.
What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
I love making things. From the very childhood, I keep making things and tinker around. I still remember, my mom telling about my and my screw driver and hammer which i always used to have with me. :)
Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
Even though I do individual projects, I prefer working in team. It is very interesting to build upon one others idea, fight for the best idea. I really enjoy it. And I feel it as important because multiple opinions and perspectives sometime gives a different dimension to the design.
Do you have any works-in-progress being designed that you would like to talk about?
I am right now working on making writing implements for the blind in which they can use the same device for languages and doing mathematical operations.

All my friends who have been with me in all my good and bad times.
