Mea’ad is the owner and principle of Mea'ad-Design Firme. Her Interior Design degree, which she completed at Dar Al-Hekma College in Jeddah, has given a strong foundation to her technical skills which she decided to develop further by working on a different scale, thus determining her choice of a Masters in Product Design. Designing involves a lot of long, complex and intricate processes and the application of basic practical skills, so it was crucial for her to pursue her advanced studies in a motivating and challenging environment. Mea’ad chose to join ECAL, a prominent school of design based in Lausanne, because their curriculum is based on projects that students undertake under the supervision of renowned designers and are presented to the Research & Development teams of distinctive brands in the luxury industry. Mea’ad is a member of Saudi Council of Engineers since 2007, and she has chosen to be the best interior designer 2011 and been awarded the International Design award from Los Angeles. Mea’ad's works and achievements have appeared in TVs, magazines and international newspapers.

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
From a young age, I was captivated by the interplay of form and function, often deconstructing everyday objects to understand their design. This innate curiosity led me to pursue formal education in interior and concept design, 3D visualization, and UI/UX design. Over the past 14 years, I've been honored to receive multiple awards across the USA, Europe, and Saudi Arabia, reflecting a journey fueled by passion and dedication.
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
Meaad Design is a multidisciplinary studio that thrives on innovation and creativity. We specialize in interior design, graphic design, and product design, aiming to craft spaces and products that are not only visually compelling but also intellectually elegant and timeless.
What is "design" for you?
Design, to me, is the art of problem-solving through aesthetics and functionality. It's about creating experiences that resonate with individuals on both emotional and practical levels, seamlessly integrating beauty with purpose.
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
I find immense satisfaction in designing spaces and products that tell a story. Whether it's an interior space that reflects the inhabitants' personalities or a product that enhances daily life, I cherish projects that blend narrative with design.
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
One of my favorite designs is a residential project where we transformed a traditional space into a modern sanctuary. By incorporating elements of the client's heritage with contemporary design principles, we created a home that was both personal and forward-thinking.
What was the first thing you designed for a company?
The first significant project I undertook was designing a corporate office space. The challenge was to create an environment that fostered productivity while reflecting the company's brand identity. This experience taught me the importance of aligning design with organizational culture.
What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
I have a profound appreciation for sustainable materials. Integrating eco-friendly resources not only benefits the environment but also adds a unique texture and story to the design.
When do you feel the most creative?
My creativity peaks during collaborative brainstorming sessions. Engaging with diverse perspectives often sparks innovative ideas and solutions.
Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
I prioritize understanding the user's needs and the context of the design. This user-centric approach ensures that the final product is both functional and meaningful.
What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
Designing evokes a spectrum of emotions—from the excitement of conceptualization to the satisfaction of problem-solving and the joy of seeing ideas come to fruition.
What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
Witnessing a design materialize brings immense fulfillment. It's a blend of pride, gratitude, and motivation to continue pushing creative boundaries.
What makes a design successful?
A successful design harmoniously balances aesthetics, functionality, and user experience. It addresses the client's needs while resonating with the end-users, standing the test of time both in form and relevance.
When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
I first assess the design's functionality and its alignment with the intended purpose. Aesthetics are crucial, but a design must effectively serve its intended function to be deemed good.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
Designers have a profound responsibility to create solutions that are sustainable and socially conscious. Our choices influence not just the immediate users but also the broader community and future generations.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
The design field is increasingly embracing technology and sustainability. The future lies in integrating artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and sustainable practices to create adaptive and resilient designs.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
My last exhibition was at the LEAP 2025 conference, where I delivered a keynote at Tuwaiq Talks, sharing insights on crafting human-centric experiences. I aim to hold my next exhibition within the next two years, focusing on the intersection of technology and design.
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
Inspiration often stems from nature, cultural heritage, and technological advancements. I immerse myself in diverse environments, attend global design forums, and engage with various art forms to continually rejuvenate my creative spirit.
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
My design style is a fusion of modern minimalism with cultural nuances. This approach was born from a desire to create spaces and products that are both universally appealing and locally relevant. Key characteristics include clean lines, functional layouts, and subtle incorporations of traditional motifs.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
Residing in Saudi Arabia, the rich cultural heritage profoundly influences my designs. The advantage lies in the abundant inspiration drawn from history and tradition. However, the challenge is to innovate while respecting and preserving cultural authenticity.

What are your suggestions to companies for working with a designer? How can companies select a good designer?
Collaborating effectively with a designer requires clear communication and mutual respect. Companies should articulate their vision, goals, and expectations transparently, fostering an environment where creative ideas can flourish. When selecting a designer, it's crucial to review their portfolio to assess the diversity and quality of their work. Additionally, understanding their design philosophy and ensuring it aligns with the company's brand values is essential. Engaging in open dialogues during the selection process can reveal the designer's problem-solving abilities and adaptability to the company's needs.
Can you talk a little about your design process?
My design process is both iterative and collaborative, beginning with a comprehensive understanding of the client's needs and the project's context. This involves in-depth research and discussions to grasp the functional requirements and aesthetic aspirations. Subsequently, I develop conceptual sketches and mood boards to visualize ideas, which are refined through client feedback. Prototyping and modeling follow, allowing for tangible assessments of form and function. Continuous evaluations and adjustments ensure the final design is both innovative and aligned with the client's vision.

Can you describe a day in your life?
A typical day begins with morning reflection and reviewing current design trends to stay inspired. I then engage with my team to discuss ongoing projects, ensuring alignment and addressing any challenges. Client meetings are interspersed throughout the day, focusing on project updates and collaborative brainstorming. Afternoons are dedicated to hands-on design work, whether sketching concepts or refining digital models. I also allocate time for professional development, such as attending webinars or exploring new design tools, to continually enhance my skills.

What is your "golden rule" in design?
"Form follows function." Ensuring that a design serves its intended purpose effectively before embellishing it aesthetically is paramount. This principle leads to creations that are both practical and beautiful.
What skills are most important for a designer?

Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
Effective time management involves setting clear priorities and realistic timelines. I break projects into manageable phases with specific milestones, allowing for focused work sessions. Utilizing project management tools helps in tracking progress and deadlines. Additionally, I ensure to allocate time for rest and creative rejuvenation to maintain productivity and inspiration.
How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
The duration varies based on the project's complexity and scope. A simple product design might take a few weeks, encompassing research, conceptualization, prototyping, and finalization.
What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
Clients often inquire, "What sets your design approach apart?" They seek assurance that their vision will be transformed into a unique and impactful design.
What was your most important job experience?
One of the most defining experiences in my career was working with Aero Yachts Services on two prestigious projects for the Royal Fleet. •I developed a unique and luxurious interior design concept that aligns perfectly with royal aesthetics, values, and preferences. •I provided artistic direction and creative leadership to the design team, ensuring that the design concept was effectively translated into every element of the lift’s interior. •A key part of the project was curating a refined selection of high-end materials, finishes, and textures, including Chinaware and overnight kits that exude elegance, comfort, and sophistication. •I also collaborated with skilled craftsmen to design and create bespoke furniture, fixtures, and accessories, all reflecting the luxurious and regal aesthetic demanded by the Royal Fleet. This project was a testament to the power of thoughtful design in creating unique, functional, and awe-inspiring spaces.

What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
I thrive in interior design, where I can blend functionality with aesthetics to create spaces that resonate with users.Transforming a blank canvas into a personalized environment is both challenging and rewarding.
What are your future plans? What is next for you?
I'm committed to continuous learning, aiming to integrate AI-driven design solutions into my projects. Attaining certifications in Project Management and Disruptive Strategy will further enhance my ability to lead innovative design initiatives.
Do you work as a team, or do you develop your designs yourself?
Collaboration is at the heart of my process. Working with a team of designers, architects, and clients enriches the creative journey, ensuring diverse perspectives and expertise shape the final outcome.

How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
Good design is not just about aesthetics—it’s about how a space or product enhances the human experience. A well-designed project seamlessly integrates form, function, and emotion. If a space feels intuitive, evokes a sense of comfort, and serves its purpose effortlessly, it has achieved good design. One key measure is longevity. Does the design remain relevant over time? Are the materials and craftsmanship built to last? These are questions we consider at Meaad Design when crafting every project. Additionally, good design is about balance—between simplicity and complexity, tradition and innovation, artistry and practicality. When all these elements come together harmoniously, you know a project has succeeded.
How do you decide if your design is ready?
Design is an iterative process, and knowing when it’s "ready" is both an instinct and a discipline. A project is complete when every element feels intentional—when no detail feels excessive or unresolved. At Meaad Design, we follow a meticulous review process, testing every aspect for functionality, aesthetics, and user experience. I often take a step back and evaluate the design with fresh eyes—if it still feels cohesive and purposeful after a period of reflection, I know it’s ready. What is your biggest design work?
One of my most significant projects was T&S Project, where we faced the challenge of transforming the pillars and values of the company into the interior. The goal was to create a space that blended innovation with cultural identity, ensuring both aesthetic excellence and user comfort. What made this project special was the level of detail and collaboration involved. From material selection to spatial planning, every decision was made with a commitment to craftsmanship and storytelling. The end result was a space that not only fulfilled its functional purpose but also left a lasting impression on those who experienced it. Who is your favourite designer?
I deeply admire the work of Campana Brothers because of their ability to merge artistry with functionality. Their designs have a distinct identity, yet they never compromise on practicality or user experience. If I had the chance to meet one legendary designer, it would be Armani for his project Armani Residences Diriyah. Their ability to innovate while respecting cultural heritage is something I strive for in my own work. Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
I’ve been immersed in design for decades now, and it’s been a journey of constant learning and exploration. I initially studied interior and industrial design, but my true education came from real-world experience. Working in different design fields—branding, interior design, product design, and user experience—allowed me to see how everything connects. I believe the best design education goes beyond books. It’s about learning from mentors, peers, clients, and, most importantly, the world around you. Every project taught me something new, and every failure was an opportunity to refine my approach.
How did you become a designer?
Design is my way of solving problems. Every project I take on is an opportunity to make the world better, more beautiful, more efficient. What drives me is the idea of creating something that speaks to people, something that shapes experiences. I became a designer because I realized I had the ability to influence how people perceive and interact with the world around them. The notion of being able to create environments and experiences that resonate emotionally is what keeps me passionate.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
It was a bit of both, but mostly a conscious choice. From a young age, I found myself drawn to how things worked—how shapes and spaces had the power to impact human emotions. I always thought of design as something innate within me. But there was a moment when I truly realized that this was my path. After dabbling in various creative pursuits—art, architecture, even engineering—it became clear that design was the perfect intersection of creativity, function, and purpose. It wasn’t forced, but rather a natural evolution.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
I design across multiple fields, but I’m particularly drawn to projects that blend design with human experience—be it through spaces, products, or digital experiences. I wish I could design more sustainable, environmentally conscious projects. Sustainability has always been at the heart of my practice, but as the world faces more pressing environmental challenges, I want to see my work help reduce our collective carbon footprint and inspire others to do the same.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
The most important advice I can give is to never stop learning. Take risks, experiment with new techniques, and most importantly, listen to people. Understand the people you’re designing for. A design legend isn’t just known for their creativity but also for their ability to connect with others. Building a strong network, finding mentors, and always staying humble are key to growing in this field. And above all, have integrity in your work—design with purpose, not just for aesthetics.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
A good designer creates work that functions well and looks aesthetically pleasing. A great designer, however, creates work that resonates deeply on an emotional level, that transforms the environment it inhabits. A great designer doesn’t just follow trends; they set them. They understand the nuances of human interaction with design and bring new ideas to the table that push the boundaries of what’s possible.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
Good design should be intuitive, seamless, and meaningful. It should solve a problem while also evoking an emotional response. To evaluate a truly great design, I ask: Does it connect with the user on a deeper level? Does it enhance or simplify their experience? And, importantly, does it stand the test of time? The best designs are those that feel timeless, not merely of a particular moment.
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
Good design has immense value because it shapes the way we experience the world. Whether in interior, branding, or products, design affects our daily lives more than we realize. It can improve functionality, elevate aesthetics, and enhance our emotional well-being. Investing in good design isn’t just about making something look pretty; it’s about creating meaningful experiences that resonate long after the interaction.
What is your day to day look like?
If I had the time, I would focus on designing luxury spaces that offer both opulence and mindfulness. I’d design exclusive retreats and private residences that provide a sanctuary for those seeking an escape from the fast-paced world. These designs would blend timeless elegance with cutting-edge technology, offering unparalleled comfort while promoting personal well-being and a sense of tranquility. The idea of creating environments where luxury and relaxation seamlessly merge to elevate the human experience truly excites me.
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
A dream project of mine would be creating an immersive, interactive environment that seamlessly combines architecture, digital art, and natural elements. Something that transcends traditional boundaries and tells a story, creating a space where visitors are not only spectators but participants in the experience. It’s a fusion of technology and nature—a place where design elevates human interaction.
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
The secret ingredient is empathy. The ability to put yourself in the shoes of the people you’re designing for and understand their needs, challenges, and desires. Empathy allows me to create designs that are not only functional but that genuinely make a difference in people’s lives. Everything else—creativity, technical skills, innovation—comes from that deep understanding of the human experience.
How do you decide if your design is ready?
I draw inspiration from many designers across different fields. The late Zaha Hadid for her groundbreaking work in architecture. I also admire contemporary figures like Jony Ive, whose work with Apple revolutionized the way we think about products and technology. Their commitment to excellence and pushing boundaries is something that continues to inspire me every day.
What is your biggest design work?
One of my favorite designs is the Eames Lounge Chair by Charles and Ray Eames. It’s a perfect blend of comfort, elegance, and timelessness. I love how it has stood the test of time while still feeling modern and innovative. Another is the Barcelona Chair by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe—a beautiful example of form and function meeting in harmony. I love these designs because they don’t just serve a function; they also evoke emotion and tell a story.
Who is your favourite designer?
My greatest design is one that balances simplicity and complexity. It’s not just about how it looks but how it functions, how it makes people feel, and how it endures over time. Great design speaks to the human experience.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
Stay curious, never stop learning, and embrace failure as part of growth. I always sought out feedback and spent countless hours refining my skills, whether through practice or mentorship.
Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?
If I hadn’t become a designer, I likely would have pursued a career in the arts—perhaps as a sculptor or a fine artist. I’ve always been drawn to the tactile nature of creating and shaping materials, and I’ve had a deep love for how art can convey emotion and meaning.
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
Design is the art of solving problems through creativity and functionality. It’s about making the world more thoughtful, beautiful, and efficient.
What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?
My mentors and peers, who pushed me to think beyond what I knew and encouraged me to take risks. My biggest supporter was my family, who believed in me even when I was so young.
