Interview with Basem El Koury

What is "design" for you?
Solving visual issues through the correct usage of art and materials.
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
I am more of an experimental designer, who tries to know about many different design elements and see how every piece could fit together.
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
The onse who provide real solution to visual issues and are packed up with a strong concepts.
What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
Holograms, not light illusions, I mean the real thing from the 80's and 90's.
When do you feel the most creative?
There is no specific place. Creative ideas can come from anywhere, or they can be hidden for a very long period.
Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
To build my design on a concept and an idea. The visuals are secondary, becasue they can alter during your design process.
What makes a design successful?
Sucess is not a measurement. If the visuals have done their purposes, which is to deliver the concept in an understandable way, then they are successful.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
Providing real solutions through visuals and physical materials/objects.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
No one can predict that, nor can someone guarantee, how the design field will change in the future.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
It was the final project of my university class in Austria. There is no date for my next exhibition.
