Interview with Mizuho Suzuki

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I first became interested in design in my mid-teens, when I was fascinated by the beautiful photos and layouts in interior design magazines.
What is "design" for you?
Small ideas to make society or life more enjoyable and enriching.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
I'm amazed at the progress of generative AI. I think there will be a return to analog someday, but I can't imagine what that will look like.
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
I live in Japan. I feel influenced by the country's cultural heritage. The advantage is its simplicity. The disadvantage is that it lacks global appeal.
How do you work with companies?
I usually receive orders through an agency, but sometimes we take orders directly.
What skills are most important for a designer?
Observe the details while also analyzing objectively from a bird's-eye view
What type of design work do you enjoy the most and why?
Logo creation. Some logos are only used for a short time, but if we're lucky, there's a chance they'll be loved for 100 years to come, and that's what makes it so romantic.

Extended Interview with Mizuho Suzuki

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
I learned most about design not at school but at the first packaging design studio I worked at, where I learned processes and ways of thinking while on the job.
How did you become a designer?
I've always enjoyed imagining things around me and thinking, "It would be better if they were like this." I wanted to become a designer, not just to imagine, but to make them a reality.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
A great designer is someone who can not only provide good designs but also suggest new ideas.
What is your day to day look like?
Original patterns and templates. I believe that there is someone out there who will like them.
What is your biggest design work?
NASA Worm Logo: This is the piece that made me realize logos were cool when I was a kid.
Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?
I would like to be involved in design in some way, like working at a select shop.
