Interview with WATARU OMAMEUDA

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
My father aspired to be an architect. As I continued along that path since my student days, I naturally aspired to become a designer.
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
We are a design consulting company that proposes homes, spaces, and town development that can be differentiated from others, with community = "connection" between people as a key factor. As a professional group of planning, real estate, and design, we will realize the diversifying needs of society and clients by producing and practicing from planning to operation in total.
What is "design" for you?
Something that stands quietly in the background, like background music, that doesn't disturb someone's music.
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
Something pure, free from arbitrary things, as if it had always been there.
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
Like second-hand clothes, things that retain their quality even after the passage of time.
What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
It's not something that goes out of fashion, but something that feels like it's always been there.
Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
It is necessary to separate large designs and small designs, and both are necessary.
