Interviews

Grand Interview

Your innovative approach to illumination in the Lumino Single Street Bench, transitioning from solid appearance during day to transparent glow at night, represents a fascinating evolution in street furniture design - could you elaborate on how this dual-nature concept emerged and developed during your creative process?

Its all started with the shape. At the beginning, the material was only one, solid. In the process of developing, using material which can change from solid to transparent started become more and more interesting and practical.

The Lumino Single Street Bench's monolithic twisted pipe design creates a striking sculptural presence while maintaining functionality - what inspired you to pursue this artistic direction in urban furniture, and how did you balance aesthetic ambition with practical requirements?

Creating street furniture is a challenging process because if you rely only on functionality, the whole project would be boring. That is why you should think of creating something interesting and memorable for street environment.

Your choice of three distinct materials for the Lumino Single Street Bench - solid-surface stone-like material, acrylic shiny plastic, and semi-transparent acrylic - offers remarkable versatility; could you share the research process that led to selecting these specific materials and how they enhance the bench's integration into different urban environments?

The main factor indeed is the different urban environment. Having variety of materials will make the product suitable for different public places. Research was based mostly on observation of different urban environments and the overall impression that they give. So these 3 materials are based on the most popular urban appearances.
