About Aranya Homes Reception Center

Aranya is a reception center built beside a wetland park in Qinhuangdao. The building uses white steel frames, geometric boxes and large glass curtain walls, so the natural setting stays visible from inside. The interior takes the calm and solemn character of a church as a reference to create a peaceful atmosphere. The ceiling is covered with wood fiber sound absorbing boards that reduce noise in busy periods. Reception bars in box form stand at the entrances to guide and separate visitor flow. An acrylic display wall presents community activities.

Y SPACE DESIGN CONSULTING FIRM's Aranya Homes Reception Center exemplifies the contemporary synthesis of hospitality architecture and experiential design, where material warmth and spatial choreography converge to create an environment that transcends conventional reception typologies. The installation demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of how timber, when deployed with architectural rigor, can transform functional programmatic requirements into spaces of contemplative resonance. The stepped seating arrangement, ascending in measured increments, suggests influences from classical gathering spaces while firmly situating itself within contemporary minimalist traditions that prioritize material authenticity and geometric clarity. The designers appear to engage thoughtfully with the phenomenology of arrival, creating a threshold experience where visitors encounter not merely a waiting area but an architectural event that invites pause and reflection. Technical accomplishment manifests in the precision joinery and seamless integration of the timber structure within its white architectural frame, demonstrating careful attention to the dialogue between warm organic materials and cool planar surfaces. The systematic grid of displayed materials on the rear wall introduces a curatorial dimension, suggesting that this space serves simultaneously as reception, gallery, and orientation point. Chromatic restraint proves particularly effective here, with the limited palette of natural wood tones against white allowing subtle variations in grain pattern and surface quality to emerge as primary visual interest. The interplay of natural light entering from the left activates the space temporally, suggesting that the experience shifts throughout the day as illumination angles change. One might observe how the diagonal thrust of the seating creates visual momentum that draws visitors deeper into the spatial sequence, while the amphitheater configuration fosters a sense of community among those who gather. The work invites consideration of how contemporary hospitality design might balance efficiency with experiential richness, and how material choices encode cultural values of authenticity and environmental consciousness.

Production Technology
Facing the noisy situation in peak period of people flow, the ceiling of whole space is made of acoustic wooden fiber board. It was a surprise that the rusticity of wooden fiber boards embodied the whole space with a loose sense, softening the space to some extents. Moreover, the brutality of wooden fiber board and the delicateness of hardware and lamps form a contrast between each other.
Design Challenge
1. This project needs to meet multiple functional needs while also taking on the role of visitor services, and hubs.
2. How to effectively solve the indoor environment chaos, noise, and other problems by a large number of people.
Project Duration
This project is located in aranya, Qinhuangdao, which has been formally put into use on the eve of 2021 aranya theater festival.
Operation Flow
Muti-functional reception bars in box form has been put at various entrances, to integrate functions as well as separate people flow. The display wall made of acrylic was in a clear structure at the entrance of the restaurant, and the content to display could be various by different community activities. In this case, customers can grasp recent community activity arrangements by taking a quick look.
Research
Transformative analysis and research the logic of behaviors and demands of people in the reception space.
The effect of different color temperature lights on people's moods;
The use of sound-absorbing materials in space.
Inspiration
At the beginning, we proposed an assumption as what kind of space would naturally calm people down? We listed and summarized space like bookstore, Buddhist temple, church, classroom, and library, feeling that the solemn and respectful dignity of church greatly matches with the atmosphere and usage of the space. Church is the place to heal the soul of people. This echoes the main concept of aranya that bringing people with spiritual release. We took this as our inspiration and thus, there is a kind of visual hierarchy guidance in current space. It appears as decoration and structure are both queuing, everything is not in rush.
