About Tarentum Caffe Bar

Tarentum is a cafe bar and whisky lounge located on the coast of Bao'an, Shenzhen, China. The interior is designed in an Ancient Greek style, and Greek food is served during the day. At night, Tarentum becomes a whisky bar with a calm and private atmosphere. The interior facade is made of warm ivory-colored cement, and gentle cream and blue tones are used throughout the space. Gray leather sofas and blue satin cushions match the blue tone of the windows. A half-height cultural stone wall divides the space and encloses the private area.

This refined hospitality interior exemplifies the contemporary synthesis of biophilic design principles with Mediterranean-inspired aesthetics that has emerged as a defining characteristic of elevated casual dining environments in recent years. The spatial composition demonstrates considerable sophistication in its orchestration of natural and architectural elements, positioning lush tropical vegetation as both visual anchor and atmospheric generator while maintaining the clean geometric precision associated with contemporary minimalist practice. The chromatic approach, dominated by warm cream tones accented with botanical greens and cool gray-blue upholstery, suggests an understanding of color psychology's role in creating environments conducive to relaxation and social connection. The overhead pendant installation, comprising clustered white spheres of varying scales, functions simultaneously as practical illumination and sculptural focal point, introducing organic compound curves that echo the biomorphic qualities of the surrounding plant life. The fluted wall treatment at left demonstrates attention to tactile visual interest, its vertical rhythm providing counterpoint to the horizontal emphasis of seating arrangements. Typography integrated into the feature wall establishes brand identity while contributing textural complexity through its elegant letterforms and multilingual inscription. The overall effect achieves that elusive quality of effortless sophistication—spaces that feel simultaneously curated and spontaneous, designed yet organic. The work invites consideration of how contemporary hospitality environments function as carefully constructed theatrical settings for human interaction, where every material choice and spatial relationship contributes to an immersive sensory experience that transcends mere functionality to become a form of environmental storytelling.

Production Technology
The facade of the interior space is designed with warm cream and Santorini blue tones, mixed with silver tone with metal elements of placer gold. Gray leather sofas and blue satin cushions echo the blue tone of the windows, as if a touch of blue on the Mediterranean Sea. The designers specially designed the external window next to the coffee bar as an open hand-brewed coffee area. The abbreviation of the brand name TRT on the wall with its round edges looks especially delicate and gentle, and adds a sense of design and practicality to the space. It is designed not only for demonstrating the brand and visual aesthetic effect, but also for solving the function of placing goods.
There is also a sunken area designed next to the Whisky Bar. The designer used a half-height cultural stone to divide the entire space and enclose the private area. It allows the customers enjoy the whisky night under the moon-shaped cement chandelier shining with the light of the night sky.
Project Duration
The project was completed in February 2021, in Shenzhen, China
Operation Flow
TRT under the blue sky and white clouds allows people to indulge in the pursuit of the sunshine, unrestricted by time and space and full of Greek flavor. When night falls, TRT transforms into a whisky bar, where people can have a drink in a comfortable and private atmosphere. The space under the full moon is filled with unique fragrance. The dim candlelight shakes slightly under the music. The smell of wine brings a full-time unforgettable experience.
When all the folding glass doors near the windows are opened, it creates a sense of blurred space that blends the interior and exterior together and brings visitors closer to the Ferris Wheel.
Inspiration
Tarentum is located under the Ferris Wheel on the coast of Bao'an, Shenzhen, China. The main design idea was to integrate this cafe bar into the Bao’an Coastal Cultural Park and to make it a place, where visitors can enjoy their leisure time with a panoramic view of the Ferris Wheel, distant beaches, clear sea and blue sky.
