About Dear Online Wedding Invitation
Dear is an online wedding invitation service. Invitations are created by customizing photos, videos and texts, including the profiles of the bride and groom and forms for replies. Compared with paper invitations, invitations made with Dear are sent by email and social media, which reduces time, cost and effort for the couple and their guests. Dear also supports other parts of the wedding online, such as advance payment of wedding gifts, reception check-in and thank-you letters sent after the ceremony. The service is designed to be simple to use.

- Production Technology
- This website is based on AWS and Laravel. iOS and Android apps are also supported, which was achieved using Xamarin. CreateJS and Three.js were used for the top page and Amazing template to achieve advanced animations.
- Design Challenge
- Until recently, there was a deep-rooted belief in Japan that it was rude to send wedding invitations not in sealed envelopes. Therefore, web invitations were mostly for casual wedding parties, and designs and functions were simple. However, we put an importance on luxury for prestigious wedding parties. By displaying multiple photos and videos on a full screen and adding effects as viewers scroll, we appeal to the hearts of viewers.
- Project Duration
- The service started in September 2014 in Japan.
- Operation Flow
- When accessing the top page, the animation which attracts visitors appears. Animation can be skipped when annoying. From the top page, you can access various pages that show information such as features of this service, designs of invitations, and so on. After you register, you can use the service and make invitations.
- Research
- When the service was released in 2014, online invitations were a completely new service in Japan. In order to build a market, we continued to discuss the direction of the service, its design and functions, and have renewed the website. As a result, web-based invitations have become familiar in Japan. By incorporating the opinions of the generation who will hold weddings in the future, we aim to provide a service that delivers a good experience for the bride, groom and their guests.
- Inspiration
- Among all the preparations for a wedding, one of the most burdensome tasks for the bride and groom is to manage the attendance of guests and to make and mail invitations. Nowadays web and smartphone technology is getting better and better, so we thought that the burden on the bride and groom can be reduced by using these technologies. Not only do we reduce the burden, but also improve their relationship with their guests by taking advantage of the unique benefits of web-based invitations.
