About RG House Single Family Residence
RG House is a single family residence located in Teresina, Brazil. The house covers 310 square meters on two floors. The ground floor holds the garage, the living and dining rooms, a gourmet space, a swimming pool, the kitchen, a guest bedroom and a service area. Two suites and a master bedroom are placed on the upper floor. The west, east and south facades carry a composition of lines made of black composite aluminum. These lines act as a brise soleil and reduce sunlight and heat inside the house. LED profiles make the pattern visible at night.
The RG House Single Family Residence by FLÁVIO MELO FRANCO emerges as a compelling exemplar of contemporary residential architecture that transcends conventional domestic building typologies to achieve the status of inhabited sculpture, demonstrating how computational design thinking and traditional tectonic craft might converge to produce dwelling spaces of extraordinary visual and spatial distinction. The work participates in ongoing architectural conversations concerning the relationship between structure and envelope, engaging questions about whether buildings might express their constructive logic through dramatic external articulation while simultaneously providing shelter and domestic comfort. The façade's angular steel framework, which appears to draw inspiration from natural geological formations such as mountain ranges or crystalline structures, establishes a visual language that mediates between the organic and the geometric, the natural and the manufactured, the expressive and the functional. Technical accomplishment is evident throughout, from the precise engineering required to support the cantilevered steel elements to the careful integration of glazing systems within the angular apertures, allowing interior spaces to maintain visual connection with the exterior while being protected by the structural screen. The palette of materials demonstrates sophisticated restraint, with the neutral cement render providing a calm backdrop against which the darker steel elements perform their dynamic choreography, while landscape elements introduce organic softening without diminishing the architectural statement. One might observe how this residence participates in broader contemporary movements that seek to dissolve boundaries between architecture and sculpture, creating buildings that function as three-dimensional compositions in space while fulfilling programmatic requirements. The work invites contemplation of how domestic architecture might embody aspirations beyond mere shelter, becoming a statement of aesthetic values and a contribution to the broader visual culture of its context.

- Unique Properties
- The project consists of a 310sqm residence located in the city of Teresina,Brazil. It has two floors. The ground floor consists of the garage, living room, dining room integrated with a gourmet space and a swimming pool, kitchen, guest bedroom and service area. The second floor consists of two suites and a master bedroom. The colors used in the composition were primarily black and grey, with touches of wooden tones for the floors and blue for the decoration to give it contrast and make it more vibrant.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The edification is 11,35m x 19m x 7,5m.

- Production Technology
- The walls were made using ceramic bricks, the structure was made using concrete and the roof was made using thermo-acoustic aluminum tiles. The rest of the composition uses black aluminum profiles, transparent glass panels, and composite aluminum brise soleil.
- Design Challenge
- Make the brises support themselves according to the original design. Support points were carefully studied so that support pillars were not used between them.
- Project Duration
- The construction took place in Teresina, Brazil from January 2020 to July 2021.
- Research
- One of the issues during the design proccess and requirement of the clients was to ease and overcome the climate challenges of the region, marked by high temperatures and strong solar incidence. The client also wanted an integration between the indoors and outdoors. A solution for this integration was to use massive glass panels, which is not recomended in the region due to extreme heat inside the edification. A way to achieve both of the client requirements was to use design a massive aluminum frame in a way that it could protect the house from insulation without blocking the view from inside the house.
- Inspiration
- The main inspiration was the dynamics of geometric lines.A large composition of lines was created on the west, east and south facades. These lines were made in composite aluminum painted in black. They also have the function of a brise soleil, helping to reduce the incidence of sunlight and heat inside the residence due to the extreme hot temperatures of the northeast of Brazil.
LED profiles were adapted to the brise soleil and at night it helps the observer to easily read the design. - Image Credits
