The Unity ring's creator, who was inspired by the 1917-founded De Stijl movement, wanted to use simple geometric shapes like rectangles and cylinders to create an abstract composition that was both straightforward and cohesive. The repetition and alignment of many rectangles of various sizes, some of which are set to be hollow and others to be filled, will produce a rhythmic pattern, communicate a sensation of movement, and provide the viewer's eye with a path to follow.
