David Kantor's Lalique Wall Calendar emerges from a distinguished tradition of commercial illustration that elevates promotional materials to the realm of visual poetry, engaging with the legacy of luxury brand visual communication while introducing contemporary surrealist sensibilities that transform familiar retail architecture into a stage for aesthetic contemplation. The work demonstrates remarkable chromatic sophistication through its commitment to a unified lavender-violet palette that bathes the entire composition in an atmosphere of refined tranquility, punctuated strategically by warm passages of cream and coral that draw the eye toward focal elements without disrupting overall harmonic unity. Technical accomplishment reveals itself in the rendering of transparent and translucent crystal forms, where the artist captures the complex optical behavior of light passing through ribbed, fluted, and curved glass surfaces with convincing luminosity and subtle color shifts that suggest deep understanding of material properties. The deliberate transgression of scale, presenting decorative crystal objects at monumental proportions that exceed the architectural framework meant to contain them, introduces an element of magical realism that invites meditation on the transformative power of craftsmanship and the elevated status of artisanal luxury objects within cultural imagination. Classical architectural vocabulary including wrought-iron balconettes, dressed stone details, and rhythmic fenestration establishes a temporal coordinate suggesting early twentieth-century European elegance, while the contemporary bicycle and digital rendering technique anchor the image in present creative practice. The climbing rose vine introduces organic vitality, its coral blossoms providing chromatic warmth and symbolic association with beauty, growth, and the natural world complementing the artificial perfection of crystal. Viewers may find themselves contemplating the relationship between interior and exterior, display and desire, the precious object and its architectural housing, discovering in this elegant composition an invitation to consider how beauty manifests through the dialogue between craft traditions and contemporary visual imagination.

- Production Technology
- Calendar is made entirely by hand and only from paper.
- Design Challenge
- Each unique glass piece has a different format and form. We designed twelve paper worlds in which we could incorporate glass pieces in an original artistic way. We had to design, project, cut and glue together hundreds of paper pieces for all of the twelve visuals.
- Project Duration
- The project started in September 2021 in Wingen-Sur-Moder France, manufactured in Ostrava and finished in December 2022 in Opava Czech Republic.
- Operation Flow
- Large size wall calendar. One of the most notable calendar benefits that everyone greatly appreciates is its haptic function, thanks to additional surface technologies, such as extensive 3D embossing or UV varnishing. It's very amusing that you can run your hand over the leaves and feel every part of it. An essential part of the calendar is a separately attached image catalogue called Inside Stories, which describes each sheet of the calendar and the technologies used. It is an important part of the project to understand its origins and also the production of the calendar.
- Research
- Everything around the glass is made entirely of paper, so it was necessary to find the right type of paper. We often had to bend it, break it and twist and we also needed a variety of paper colours. We also glued several of them on top of each other to create volume. It took a lot of time to try and test before we found the right type of paper for our work. Choosing the right glue was equally important. First, the blueprint for each topic had to be in the form of a sketch on paper and then converted into a flat form on a computer and divided into individual parts that were cut by laser. Then the individual parts had to be glued together to create the whole object. It was a lengthy and demanding manual process.
- Inspiration
- Inspiration for our calendar comes from limitless creativity of Lalique artists. Through the whole production, each piece is made entirely by hand by many excellent workers.
