About Cool Line Liquor Bottles
This design subverts the shape of normal liquor bottles, and also accurately conveys that the function is served by the form. A complete unit consists of a pair of linear tubes, each can actually hold 2 kinds of liquor, the main upper part and the C-shaped base part. So a pair of tubes can hold 4 different base liquor, with distinctive bottle colors to distinguish the flavors. The shape can be rotated and folded at the joints, It can be reassembled into a new 3D form, which can be more interesting

- Design Challenge
- The idea of this bottle shape is a challenge, it makes a breakthrough in the traditional form of the liquor bottle. In order to make this bottle hold more kinds of base liquor, a joint is needed. The most difficult part of this design is the joint, which can ensure that the upper part of the main tube can rotate freely. With the spring screw for positioning, iIt can also ensure that the bottom can do 4 continuous 90 degree positioning rotation (360 degree rotation). In addition, counterweight at the bottom and overall balance are also difficult.
- Project Duration
- The project was started in Zhengzhou in February 2022 and completed in January 2023.
- Operation Flow
- By unscrewing the top bottle cap, the user can directly pour out the liquor from the main tube. The C-shaped base part can be directly pull out from the joint when it is positioned at 90 degrees, and then unscrewed the small bottle cap to pour out the liquor of the C-shaped part.
- Research
- The research direction of this project is to design a new style and interactive product that young people like. We searched all the liquor bottles on the existing market and try to find a solution in a new way. The lines in the 2D space are transformed into 3D space through the joint, which can be more interesting. We have done a lot of experiments with 3D printing, and finally tested out the correct joint and determined the thickness of the linear tubes and the capacity of the bottle.
- Inspiration
- When you pick up the pencil, in 2D space, any virtual 3D form can be outlined with 2D lines. However, in 3D space, lines can have their own 3D forms, which can be changed and can be combined into a new 3D object. So I try to combine two thick lines together and add a joint to change the line direction at the bottom to form a 3D shape of a liquor bottle.

Design Interview about Cool Line Liquor Bottles
A good design must be beautiful, practical and easy to use, these are my three main principles of design. In addition, every good design should also have its anthropomorphic temperament, through this anthropomorphism to let it tell its own story. A good design speaks for itself, that's what it is all about. My design is inspired by my extensive reading and experiences, and it is only when I have enough deposits that inspiration and ideas come out.
I am designing the Coolline Bottle because I want to create a container that is different from all liquors, it can't be a liquor bottle, but the feeling it gives must be a liquor bottle, a bit contradictory, but interesting. Many hobby drinkers display their favorite liquors in their homes, and as long as someone is displaying them, I've achieved my goal.
I want other countries to produce and sell the Coolline Bottle, and I want to promote it all over the world.
It took me more than a year to design it, the sketch period was very simple and it only took a month or two to perfect it. It took almost a year to study its structure and design joints, to 3D printing to adjust the details.
I designed this product just for fun, when I was young I loved bartending and partying, I use this design to reminisce about my younger days and pay tribute to all the young people.
I developed the Coolline Bottle project myself and commissioned a liquor company to produce it. I own all the intellectual property rights of Coolline Bottle, so I want to sell it in other countries in the future if possible, either by cooperating with other sales companies or by selling the copyrights to it.
I designed this product just for fun, to create something that would shake up everyone's thinking, and for no other particular reason.
Thickening and enlarging the line is a common design technique. The joint design of this work is original and no one else has done it, so I don't think any other design has influenced this work.
Coolline Bottle's target customers are young people and liquor lovers who like to hunt.
Coolline Bottle is different from all other liquor designs, there is no similar concept.
Because the basic element of this design is lines, I wanted to name it with cool lines.
I used Rhinoceros 3D modeling and then 3D printing.
The most unique thing about this design is that it has an interesting 2D to 3D conversion, subtle positionable joints, and combinable features, all of which I like.
The modeling and 3D printing of this design was done with the help of my friend Ba Tao.
The difficulty of this design is the joints, but nothing else is particularly technical.
I did this design for fun, and it was intuitively driven by my intuition, not influenced by data or analytical studies. 17. The challenge is to make the design work through the joints.
The challenge is to make the 2D to 3D conversion of this composite object through the joint design, which has been tried and tested many times.
I was just trying to sell this design to a big liquor company when one of my college friends reminded me that I could enter a design competition. I hadn't thought about it and wasn't sure if my design would be recognized internationally, but I finally decided to give it a try.
Keep insisting, keep tweaking the details, revising, and try to make the product perfect with no regrets.

Grand Interview about Cool Line Liquor Bottles
Everyone uses a pen when they sketch.No matter what kind of pen you use, what you draw is a line, not a surface.So, thicken and enlarge the line, then the line naturally has volume, and then twist and misalign a certain part of the line in space, then it naturally becomes a three-dimensional object.
The key is the positioning of the steering, so I used an existing standard part, a spring-loaded top bead.Then I designed a shallow grooved track based on this top bead, and then 4 concave hemispherical positioning points at each 90 degrees.This way, when you rotate the tube, the joint remains stationary and the tube automatically stops at 90 degrees and is positioned.
Each tube of this bottle consists of two parts, a vertical upper part and a horizontal lower part, connected by a steering joint.This characteristic makes it impossible for these two parts to communicate with each other internally.So I considered having them hold different wines, which is more selective.When the two tubes are attracted together by the magnets at the mouth and bottom of the bottle and appear intertwined, giving the illusion that they are one and the same.
Why metal? It is because glass cannot reach the precision of the combination assembled together, and also because the steering joints require more precision, so it is necessary to use metal, and there is no way to use glass.
Because this design consists of four modules and two joints, it can be held by the consumer free steering and free splicing, can be four kinds of wine free combination, more choices, better interaction, so it is also more interesting.
I just want to break through the limitations of the wine bottle form to design a different container, its design approach can be sculpture or furniture, but it must look like a wine bottle, but in fact it is not.
The surprise for me was to buy the spring top bead, a standard part, online, to achieve the 90 degree positioning and the stability of the connecting combination with the help of magnets.
A lot of hotels before the 90's offered some super small bottles of various liqueurs, you could taste different kinds of liqueurs if you traveled to a different country or you could make them yourself.You could taste lightly instead of having to go out and buy a huge bottle of each liqueur. I just really enjoy trying different and new things, and I think there are probably quite a few other people with the same mindset as me.If I could go back to being young again, I'd taste more different wines and foods, or crazier things.
My kids would mix sodas and juices together and try different new flavors. liqueurs are just adult beverages, but we can be like kids at heart trying new and exciting flavors, and dozens of wines can be mixed to create more possibilities, and new flavors can be shared with more different people.
This liqueur bottle is made of metal and is recyclable, so it is very environmentally friendly.The outer packaging is clear recyclable acrylic.Simple and straightforward, no need for excessive packaging.
