About Raised History Festival Light Installation

Raised History is a festival light installation created for a Christmas event. The structure is built from wooden lattice, which reveals its internal frame and forms the shape of a tree. Changing colors of light are projected onto canvases placed at the bottom of each layer. The colors are based on historical periods of the city, and the curved form recalls the keel of a sailboat from the founding of the port. Placed near an old canal, the installation acts as a visual focal point and brings a festive atmosphere to the harbor area.

Design Challenge
The most difficult part was the structure of each wooden lattice. The structure had two curves, one for horizontal skirt under each layer and the other for vertical facade, and much more calculation was necessary than ordinary curved shape by lattice.
Inspiration
We leverage historical elements of the city, planning colors that represent each era and transforming them into projected light hues. Employing the sailboat keel structure from the port's establishment 400 years ago, we create a rhythm with undulating curves, giving the entire tree an elegant and dynamic appearance.
Project Duration
The project started in November 2023 in Tainan City, Taiwan and finished in December 2023. The installation was built for Christmas event which was held for 1 month.
