About Almia Multiuse Airfryer
Almia is a multifunction air fryer designed for countertop cooking and table serving. An integrated pot in the style of a Dutch oven holds the food during cooking and can be carried directly to the dinner table. The rounded body joins the basket and the main housing into one continuous form, and the surfaces have a soft matte finish. A simple interface lets the user swipe to select air frying, baking or dehydrating, set the time and temperature, and press to start. Almia is intended to suit home interiors as well as kitchen use.
Akachi Okafor's Multiuse Airfryer exemplifies contemporary industrial design's ongoing dialogue with mid-century minimalist principles, demonstrating how thoughtful formal restraint and chromatic discipline can elevate utilitarian kitchen appliances into aesthetically considered domestic objects that contribute meaningfully to the visual ecology of contemporary living spaces. The design engages directly with traditions established throughout the latter twentieth century by designers working within Scandinavian and Germanic design schools, where functional clarity, material honesty, and visual quietude represented ethical as well as aesthetic commitments, translating these historical precedents into a contemporary appliance that addresses current culinary practices while maintaining design integrity that transcends fleeting trend cycles. The compositional achievement rests substantially upon the sophisticated chromatic relationship between the warm neutral off-white primary body and the deliberate deployment of muted sage green across structural and interactive elements, a pairing that suggests both organic calm and approachable technology, avoiding the clinical severity of pure white industrial finishes while maintaining the cleanliness associations essential to food preparation contexts. The interface design demonstrates particular accomplishment in its integration of analog and digital control modalities, where two circular rotary dials offer tactile, intuitive interaction for fundamental parameters while the digital display provides precise numerical feedback regarding time, temperature, and operational mode, this hybrid approach acknowledging that effective user experience often requires combining the immediate physical satisfaction of rotational controls with the informational clarity that digital typography provides. The form language throughout exhibits careful attention to edge conditions and transitional geometries, maintaining consistent soft radius treatments that unify the design vocabulary while enhancing tactile appeal and perceived quality, these subtle formal decisions accumulating to communicate craft consideration and manufacturing precision that distinguish thoughtfully resolved products from commodified alternatives. The horizontal emphasis of the overall composition, reinforced by the rectilinear control panel and the bilateral placement of handle elements visible at the sides, creates visual stability appropriate to a countertop appliance while the generous volumetric proportions suggest functional capacity without excessive bulk, balancing practical cooking volume requirements against spatial economy within typically constrained kitchen environments. This work invites consideration of how industrial designers navigate the complex territory between pure functional utility and aesthetic contribution, transforming everyday domestic tools into objects worthy of sustained visual attention and appreciation, ultimately asking viewers to contemplate what qualities distinguish merely adequate product design from work that enriches daily experience through formal thoughtfulness and material sensitivity.

- Ideating around the very build of the airfryer to create a design form that harmoniously blending the basket and main body took the most consideration. What curves, form continuity, and shape can be most effective were constant questions?
- Project Duration
- The project started in November 2023 and finished in April 2024 in Phoenix, AZ
- Operation Flow
- After turning on ALMIA, simply swipe to your preferred cooking setting whether it'd be airfry, bake, or dehydrate, pick the time and temperature for your meal, and press to start. After your meal is prepared, simple bring the pot from the airfryer instantly to the table fore your to enjoy
- Research
- After creating a competitor analysis chart with over 50 air fryers within the market, I defined their strengths, concerns, and flaws of the features. Two Venn diagrams were create to define the forms and features within those air fryers. One that overlapped "Microwave", "Basket" and "Toaster Oven" forms and one that overlapped "Airfryer", "Pressure Cooker", and "Oven" centered features. Using that quantitative data, I performed secondary research to understand drivers and restraints as well.
- Inspiration
- While airfryers are growing rapidly in customer ownership as one of the highest trending kitchen appliances, the function and aesthetics have been stagnant with industrial and metal forward materials. With research into the competitive market and user current sensibilities, ALMIA serves as advancement to the to the current architecture of Airfryer and complements ones interior design sense.
