About Futurescape Residential
This design embraces a futuristic technological theme, utilizing spatial dimensions to enhance functionality and solve residential challenges. Light, materials, and colors merge seamlessly, creating a harmonious and fluid living space. Located near New Taipei Metropolitan Park, the design incorporates nature, catering to the homeowner’s cycling lifestyle. Open layouts blur indoor-outdoor boundaries, fostering a deep connection with nature. Modern materials ensure a futuristic yet functional space. Lighting and soft tones expand visual depth.
Futurescape Residential by Mu En Chen engages contemporary residential design discourse through a refined exploration of spatial fluidity, material restraint, and the psychological dimensions of domestic minimalism, positioning itself within architectural conversations that value atmospheric serenity and sculptural formal gesture as primary experiential offerings. The design demonstrates accomplished compositional intelligence through its diagonal spatial organization that draws the eye progressively through layered zones from intimate foreground seating arrangement through transitional middle ground to glimpsed functional spaces beyond, each zone differentiated through lighting intensity, material finish, and volumetric articulation while maintaining visual continuity through chromatic restraint and geometric resonance. The central curved partition element represents notable formal achievement, its monumental scale and seamless execution suggesting considerable technical facility in construction detailing and finish carpentry, the convex surface creating dynamic interaction with light that activates the plane through subtle tonal gradation rather than applied ornament, embodying minimalist principle that form itself constitutes sufficient aesthetic interest when executed with precision and sensitivity. Chromatic sophistication emerges through the designer's disciplined palette restriction to warm and cool neutrals that create spatial depth through temperature relationships rather than hue contrast, the warm honey wood platform and caramel tones establishing grounding warmth while cooler grays in partition and furnishing provide atmospheric lift, the glazed floor surface multiplying luminosity through reflection and creating visual doubling that enhances perceived volume. Material selection demonstrates refinement and tactile consideration, the juxtaposition of matte plaster smoothness against polished stone reflectivity, plush upholstery softness against hardwood warmth, and metal's linear crispness creates sensory richness within monochromatic restraint, each surface finish calibrated to contribute specific atmospheric quality while maintaining overall visual coherence. The furnishing selection reinforces the design's commitment to organic modernism, the biomorphic sofa and asymmetric coffee table introducing sculptural forms that soften orthogonal architectural container, their curved silhouettes echoing the dominant partition gesture and creating formal conversation across the spatial field, while the attenuated arc lamp provides vertical counterpoint and mid-century modern historical reference. Lighting design achieves particular success through its concealment strategy, ambient illumination emanating from hidden cove details and recessed fixtures creating the effect of architectural surfaces themselves as luminous rather than lit, the technique enhancing material presence and spatial continuity while avoiding visual clutter of exposed fixture hardware. The design appears to explore themes of domestic tranquility and spatial refinement, investigating how restrained material palette and carefully calibrated proportion can create environments that support contemplation and psychological restoration, the spatial sequence from intimate seating zone through transitional circulation to functional service areas suggesting choreographed domestic ritual and the pleasure of moving through beautifully resolved architectural space. Connections to Japanese spatial philosophy seem evident particularly in the treatment of void as active design element, the curved partition creating meaningful emptiness that defines adjacent zones without visual closure, while Scandinavian influences emerge in the material honesty and chromatic restraint, and organic modernism's legacy appears in the biomorphic formal vocabulary and integration of natural elements through the window's verdant exterior connection. One might observe how the design negotiates between monumentality suggested by the partition's sculptural scale and intimacy created by the foreground seating arrangement, achieving domestic warmth within minimalist rigor through precise calibration of proportion, light, and material character, inviting consideration of how contemporary residential design can honor both aesthetic restraint and lived comfort, creating spaces that reward sustained inhabitation and contemplative attention while maintaining visual clarity and formal elegance.

- Production Technology
- To achieve a sleek, cutting-edge tech vibe, we opted for eco-friendly Italian paints in refined shades of gray and white, meticulously curated to cultivate a pristine and welcoming environment. Enhanced by the subtle interplay of wood grain, stone textures, and soft hues of light gray, the space resonates with the brilliance of sunlight flooding every room. Particular attention was given to the inherent spatial dimensions, meticulously integrating the scale and structural elements to orchestrate a fluid and sophisticated layout. Through a strategic utilization of the 3.4-meter ceiling height and mezzanine design, we maximized the living space to meet the needs of each family member. The ceiling’s light strip design accentuates the perception of light and spatial height differences, visually overcoming the limitations of a compact residential environment.
- Design Challenge
- Embracing a futuristic technological aesthetic as the primary design theme, the design team leveraged spatial dimensions to turn potential constraints into advantages, effectively tackling the challenges posed by limited living space. Through a harmonious integration of light, materials, and colors, we've curated a distinctively refined spatial ambiance. Situated near the expansive New Taipei Metropolitan Park, this project anticipates the future lifestyle habits of the inhabitants and their affinity for cycling. We've allocated space for bicycle storage, seamlessly integrating interior design with ecological and natural elements, thereby fostering a vibrant, active, and eco-friendly living environment.
- Project Duration
- The project finished in October 2023 in Taipei, Taiwan.
- Operation Flow
- Aligned with future trends and technological advancements, and driven by a commitment to global sustainability, this project incorporates eco-friendly natural Italian mineral paints on its wall surfaces. These innovative paints not only regulate indoor temperature but also utilize low-saturation color elements to instill a serene atmosphere. Large windows strategically positioned throughout the space maximize natural light penetration, minimizing reliance on artificial lighting and contributing to efforts against global warming. This holistic approach enhances spatial functionality, promoting increased interaction between inhabitants and their surroundings, thus cultivating a dynamic and immersive living environment.
- Research
- Emphasizing the comfort and aesthetics of life, and taking the homeowner's living needs as the core of the design, the space is shaped into a versatile space to satisfy daily functions which enriching the home life, combining materials and color tones to create a simple and unique atmosphere which allows people to interact with the space, and at the same time, shapes the home's fascinating style by the interplay of light and shadow.
- Inspiration
- Breaking away from conventional spatial designs, this project prioritizes meeting the homeowner's needs within a 106 sqm interior and a ceiling height of 3.4 meters. Tailored to accommodate the daily living requirements of a family of four, the design aims to create a versatile living space. For instance, the mezzanine design can house more residents if needed, with a bunk bed design in the children's room suitable for the kids until they reach school age. The guest room features a folding bed, providing additional storage space underneath, and can also be converted into a study or playroom when not in use. Additionally, this project is situated near the expansive New Taipei Metropolitan Park while the design accommodates the homeowner's cycling habits by integrating indoor elements with ecology and nature. These inspirations significantly enhance the functionality of the space, fostering meaningful interaction between the inhabitants and their environment, elevating the home’s unique character and allure.
