About Ipick Wet Toilet Paper

Ipick is a wet toilet paper designed for people with toileting issues such as hemorrhoids or constipation. Wet toilet paper is made of non-woven fabric, which is soft but also fragile. In most products the folded edges are hard to see, so several sheets tear off together when pulled. Ipick makes the edge of each sheet visible through a pattern-embossing process that uses precision rollers to form micro-patterns on the surface. One sheet is released at a time, so use is quick, clean and hygienic. A batch dyeing method gives even color.

Ipick Wet Toilet Paper by Jobs Chin, Alon J and Ye Nan represents a thoughtful contribution to the evolving design discourse surrounding personal care product packaging, a category where functional requirements intersect with contemporary aesthetic sensibilities and cultural expectations of cleanliness, convenience, and dignity. Positioned within the broader tradition of consumer product design that seeks to elevate quotidian necessities through careful formal consideration, this packaging solution demonstrates sensitivity to the complex semiotic negotiations required when addressing intimate personal hygiene needs while maintaining visual approachability and market shelf presence. The design achieves compositional balance through strategic restraint, allowing a predominantly white achromatic scheme to communicate purity, freshness, and hygienic confidence while deploying a single saturated lime green element as both functional indicator and memorable brand signature. This chromatic strategy resonates with contemporary minimalist design movements that privilege clarity and honesty over visual complexity, suggesting that the product's value resides in its essential utility rather than superficial embellishment. The flexible film substrate selected for the package demonstrates technical understanding of material performance requirements, the matte or low-sheen finish reducing reflective glare that might obscure printed information while the resealable closure mechanism addresses practical needs for product preservation and controlled dispensing. The typography and graphic layout visible on the package surfaces suggest careful information hierarchy, balancing regulatory requirements, usage instructions, brand identity, and cross-cultural communication needs through layered textual elements in complementary coral pink tonality that provides warmth without compromising the overall fresh aesthetic. The partially opened configuration revealing actual product contents represents a notable choice in commercial representation, offering visual evidence of the nonwoven wipe material quality and reassuring potential users about the tangible nature of the product rather than relying solely on exterior packaging promises. One might observe how this transparency gesture participates in broader contemporary consumer expectations for authenticity and material honesty in product marketing. The dimensional qualities captured through subtle lighting and shadow work demonstrate photographic craft that respects both the object's physical reality and its symbolic function as carrier of cleanliness, care, and personal dignity. The work invites viewers to reconsider how design attention applied to everyday necessities can transform utilitarian objects into subjects worthy of aesthetic contemplation, and to reflect on the quiet dignity that thoughtful design brings to the intimate rituals of daily self-care.

Unique Properties
People suffering from toileting issues, such as hemorrhoids, or constipation, often use wet toilet paper to alleviate pain and discomfort during bowel movements. However, most wet toilet paper is designed to be soft and retain moisture, and the interfolds within the paper are usually not visible, causing multiple sheets to tear off easily when pulled. Ipick has redesigned wet toilet paper, making the edges of each piece of paper visible, allowing you to quickly and smoothly pull out each sheet!

Production Technology
The Ipick Wet Toilet Paper features a revolutionary design that enhances the visibility of sheet edges through a patented pattern-embossing process. This process uses precision rollers to create micro-patterns on the paper's surface, allowing each sheet to be easily distinguished and separated with minimal effort. Post-production, a specialized batch dyeing technique is applied for even color distribution and gentleness on sensitive skin.
Design Challenge
The biggest challenge was gaining market acceptance for our wet toilet paper. We had to change entrenched user habits and compete with familiar brands. Overcoming this involved understanding consumer psychology, conducting market research, and creating an effective marketing strategy to highlight our product's unique value.
Project Duration
The project started in February 2024 in Chengdu and finished in April 2024 in Chengdu, and was awarded in K-DESIGN AWARD 24.
Operation Flow
Ipick Wet Toilet Paper is designed for easy and clean use. To operate, simply pull a sheet from the pack, and the embossed edges ensure only one sheet comes out at a time, avoiding mess. The soft, moist texture gently cleanses, providing comfort and reducing pain during sensitive moments. Its performance is superior due to the even sheet separation, which is both hygienic and efficient.
Research
Type of Research: User-Centered Design Study.
Research Objectives: To improve wet toilet paper usability for those with toileting issues.
Methodology: Mixed methods, combining qualitative user interviews and quantitative product testing.
Data Collection and Tools: Surveys, interviews, and prototype testing kits.
Participants: 86 adults with toileting issues, 54% male, 46% female.
Results: 90% reported easier sheet separation; 85% felt increased comfort.
Insights: Users prefer easy-to-separate sheets for hygiene and efficiency.
Impacts: Design enhances user comfort and product acceptance in the personal care market.
Inspiration
Wet toilet paper is essential for people experiencing constipation, hemorrhoids and difficulty in bowel movements. It effectively relieves constipation and prevents related illnesses. However, it is made of non-woven fabric, which makes it softer but also more fragile. When pulling out wet toilet paper impatiently and quickly, it is easy to tear several layers that are stacked together.
