About 4.56 Interior Design
4.56 is a reception lobby designed for a residential building. The lobby has a non-rectangular plan, with a length of 8.5 metres, a width of 7.3 metres and a height of 3 metres. Large glass surfaces increase daylight. White walls and grey flooring create a bright and visually light space, while black elements and curated artworks by various artists add contrast. A large artwork behind the reception desk recalls the sea waves of Juhu Beach. Residents reach their apartments directly through a private lift.
Prashant Chauhan's 4.56 Interior Design engages contemporary residential interior design traditions that synthesize modernist spatial clarity with classical material richness, situating itself within trajectories of luxury residential architecture where minimalism serves not as ascetic reduction but as refined backdrop for carefully curated experiential moments and sculptural focal gestures. The compositional achievement rests in the measured balance between monumental architectural scale suggested by floor-to-ceiling marble cladding and expansive ceiling heights, and intimate human-scaled interventions represented by the contemplative seated figure and organic plant forms that domesticate the volume and invite personal identification rather than institutional distancing. The chromatic strategy demonstrates sophisticated restraint, building a high-key luminous foundation in white marble with subtle gray veining that provides textural interest without chromatic competition, then introducing strategic warm metallic gold notes through architectural hardware and furniture supports that elevate material perception toward luxury without resorting to excessive ornamental elaboration, while the matte black sculptural accents create maximum tonal contrast and visual anchoring that prevents the pale palette from dissolving into ethereal weightlessness. The undulating bas-relief wall sculpture represents a particularly accomplished formal passage, its rhythmic horizontal waves creating dynamic shadow modulation and kinetic visual interest through purely formal means, the white-on-white treatment allowing light and shadow to become the medium of expression rather than chromatic variation, and the organic curvilinear vocabulary introducing natural reference and soft counterpoint to the rectilinear architectural framework. The spatial organization suggests threshold or liminal function, an entrance foyer designed to mediate between exterior public realm and interior private sanctuary, the glass wall admitting daylight and visual connection to vegetation beyond while the marble enclosure establishes protective boundary and material solidity, the transitional character reinforced by the seated figure whose contemplative pause embodies the psychological shift from movement to arrival, from exterior to interior consciousness. The integration of biophilic elements through potted fiddle-leaf figs represents thoughtful attention to human spatial psychology research demonstrating the restorative and stress-reducing effects of natural forms within built environments, the plants' organic silhouettes and vibrant green hues providing chromatic relief and visual softness that temper the mineral hardness and cool neutrality of stone surfaces. The circular mirror functions as both practical amenity for final appearance checking before departure and symbolic device compressing and reflecting space, creating visual depth through reflection while its brass frame echoes the metallic accent strategy deployed throughout, the reflected window view doubling the connection to exterior landscape and reinforcing the threshold condition. One might observe how the design invites contemplation regarding the role of sculptural art within residential architecture, whether the figurative and avian forms serve merely as decorative accents or whether their careful placement and formal dialogue with architectural elements elevates them to integral participants in the spatial narrative, the seated figure's orientation and repose suggesting not passive decoration but active meditation on the experience of dwelling and the meaning of home as sanctuary for reflection.
