About Lupax Rotating Lighting
The lamp is built around a steady inner spine, while its movable wings let the user guide how the illumination spreads across a space. The form stays intentionally minimal so the act of adjusting the wings becomes the highlight of the experience. When the panels are lifted upward, the glow becomes concentrated and dramatic, creating bold, tense visual effects. A downward orientation produces a calm, gentle radiance that feels soothing and harmonious.

Interviews
Design Interview
What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
The main inspiration behind Lupax comes from the contrast between conflict and peace, and the idea that light can become a symbol of calmness and harmony. The movable wings of the lamp allow the user to transform the atmosphere of a space, creating either focused and sharp lighting or soft and peaceful illumination through a simple interaction.
What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
Our main focus was to create a lighting object that goes beyond functionality and becomes an interactive emotional experience. We wanted the movement of the lamp to feel natural and meaningful while allowing users to directly shape the atmosphere of their environment.
What are your future plans for this award winning design?
We hope to further develop the project technically. At the same time, we would like to continue expanding this design language into future lighting collections and experimental projects.

- Unique Properties
- The lamp has a fixed central core. When the user rotates the wings, they change the direction and spread of the light. The design is kept simple so the movement becomes the main feature. These turned upward make indirect, focused light with sharp shapes that suggest conflict. Those turned downward make soft, diffused light that suggests peace.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- This product has a slim and elegant design, is 1200 mm long, 120 mm high, and 300 mm wide. The height and width of the lamp are flexible and replaceable by the user.

- Production Technology
- The main material chosen for this product is R-Polyurethane, which has been specifically selected to optimize the vacuum casting process. This material offers excellent fluidity and allows for intricate details.
Beyond processability, R-Polyurethane offers an excellent surface finish, ensuring that the final parts are smooth, visually refined and ready for post-production processing or direct use without extensive finishing work.
This careful selection of materials reflects the thoughtful integration of design intent and manufacturability. - Design Challenge
- The project challenged the integration of design and engineering. The first task was to create a slim, elegant form expressing fluidity and movement while preserving aesthetic appeal. The second was to implement diverse lighting modes enabling dynamic adaptation. Designing the dual wing rotation mechanism allowing opposite rotation while maintaining function was a major technical hurdle, demanding balance between elegance, function, and feasibility.
- Research
- Lupax is a pendant lamp designed to change the feeling of a room through small adjustments. Its moving parts let people change the light to create calm or focused spaces. The project shows how a simple design can express ideas of balance and peace while letting users interact with it in a meaningful way.
- Inspiration
- Lupax is a rotatable pendant lamp inspired by the timeless conflict between war and peace. Its dynamic movement symbolizes the constant shift between tension and harmony, while its gentle illumination represents the triumph of calm and clarity over fear and chaos. Through its form and function, the lamp reminds us of our shared responsibility to create balance, nurture compassion, and protect peace in our world.
- Project Duration
- The project Started in April 2025 in Iran (Isfahan & Tehran) and finished in September 2025.
- Operation Flow
- By adjusting the sections, the user can change the direction and spread of the light, instantly transforming the mood of the room. Upward-facing flaps create focused light that energizes the space, while downward-facing them produce soft, diffused light that brings calm and comfort. This simple action allows users to control the atmosphere, making the light an interactive part of their daily experience.
