About Song Bag

Song is a bucket bag inspired by the Eastern swallow kite and its lightweight bamboo framework. An O shaped support structure on both side panels uses supple, resilient leather to hold a crisp silhouette without rigid linings, while the back panel stays soft to the touch. The bag is made of vegan leather produced from recycled ocean plastic and other waste materials, with a tumbled surface texture. A cross lock system with a double bar snap and a magnetic buckle allows secure storage and quick access. A detachable strap and a removable inner pouch permit handheld or crossbody use.

Songmont's design philosophy finds compelling expression through this leather accessory, positioning the work within contemporary movements toward minimalist luxury that privilege material integrity and proportional refinement over decorative excess, a design territory that suggests dialogue with enduring traditions of functional elegance while embracing present-day sensibilities regarding versatile, timeless accessories. The compositional achievement evident in Song Bag's architecture demonstrates sophisticated understanding of volumetric balance, the gentle bell-curve silhouette offering visual softness while maintaining structural integrity, the dual-handle construction providing both practical functionality and aesthetic counterpoint through their symmetrical ascent from the body's shoulders. Chromatic restraint proves particularly accomplished, the warm taupe selection occupying that coveted neutral territory between cool gray and warm beige, a hue sophisticated enough for formal contexts yet approachable enough for daily wear, the color choice suggesting natural undyed leather associations while actually demonstrating careful pigment selection that flatters diverse wardrobes and contexts. Technical execution reveals itself through surface details: the pebbled grain texture speaks to quality leather selection, the contrast topstitching traces structural seams with precision that reinforces rather than conceals construction logic, and the matte finish suggests deliberate surface treatment that prioritizes longevity and graceful aging over initial glossy impact. The bag's scale appears carefully calibrated for contemporary needs, substantial enough to accommodate daily essentials while remaining compact enough to maintain elegant proportions when carried, the dimensional relationships between body height, width, and depth creating harmonious ratios that please the eye while serving practical requirements. Handle proportions demonstrate similar thoughtfulness, their oval cross-section offering comfortable grip while their generous scale provides visual presence appropriate to the bag's overall architecture, the parallel arcs they describe creating rhythmic visual movement that activates the upper composition. The leather tab closure visible at front represents integration of functional necessity into aesthetic composition, the small-scale detail contributing to overall design coherence rather than appearing as afterthought appendage. Thematically, Song Bag appears to explore questions of enduring value in an era of accelerated consumption cycles, the design's restraint and focus on intrinsic material and proportional qualities suggesting celebration of objects designed for longevity rather than seasonal obsolescence, an inquiry into what constitutes meaningful luxury when divorced from logo-centric status signaling. The work invites consideration of how contemporary accessories might balance aesthetic refinement with practical utility, how minimalist design languages can communicate sophistication without resorting to obvious embellishment, and how material honesty and construction transparency might emerge as luxury signifiers as compelling as traditional markers of exclusivity. Viewers might contemplate their own relationships with everyday objects, considering how design choices in functional items contribute to daily experience, how the objects we carry become extensions of personal presentation, and how thoughtful design in accessible categories can elevate ordinary moments through sustained appreciation of proportion, material, and craft.

Press Kit

Unique Properties
The bag innovatively integrates the lightweight yet sturdy construction of Eastern swallow kites, translating the U shaped stress distribution observed in bent bamboo strips into an O shaped support structure. The structure adopts supple, resilient leather for self support, enabling the bag to maintain a crisp silhouette. A cross lock system combines a mortise and tenon dual bar snap with a magnetic buckle for secure storage and quick access, meeting user needs through humanized details.

Production Technology
The bag employs vegan leather made from recycled ocean plastic and other waste materials, providing a delicate texture, excellent elasticity, and lasting durability while promoting a circular economy. Treated with a tumbling process, it boasts a well textured surface, enhancing visual layering and offering a gentle touch.
Design Challenge
The core innovation is a lightweight structure that offers a soft yet structured solution. The bag utilizes an O shaped support structure on both sides. The structure adopts supple, resilient leather to mimic the U shaped stress distribution observed in bent bamboo strips, enabling the bag to maintain a crisp silhouette even when carrying heavy loads, with no rigid linings required. It is strategically placed along side panels and handles, ensuring areas like the back remain soft to the touch.
Project Duration
The product was first designed in June 2018 and launched in early 2019. It underwent an iterative redesign in Beijing in June 2025, and the new 3.0 version will be officially launched in Beijing in March 2026.
Operation Flow
The bag introduces a dual security cross lock system: a horizontal mortise and tenon double bar snap supports one handed locking or unlocking, while a vertical magnetic buckle allows one second opening or closing. This ensures secure storage and convenient access.
With a detachable, adjustable strap and a removable inner pouch, the bag delivers multiple carrying options like handheld or crossbody and allows compact storage, easily adapting to daily commuting, casual outings, and business travel.
Research
Traditional bags often struggle to balance softness with crispness: too soft and they are prone to deformation, too rigid and comfort is compromised. In response, this product innovatively draws inspiration from the swallow kite, using supple leather to create a structure that provides moderate support while ensuring softness and a minimalist aesthetic. Combined with a cross lock system and an adjustable strap, it fully meets the demand of modern users for both aesthetic appeal and practicality.
Inspiration
Inspired by the Eastern swallow kite, this bag translates the kite making logic, where lightweight bamboo strips are scientifically arranged to lend soft paper both stability and tension, into an O shaped support structure on both sides, reinterpreting the functionality and aesthetic appeal of traditional craftsmanship in a modern manner.
