About Pearl White Residential Interior

Pearl White is a residential interior created for a high-rise apartment in Mumbai, India. The home is organised around a circular plan that supports fluid movement, spatial continuity, and panoramic city and mountain views. Marble flooring with brass inlay, semi-precious stone work, hand-tufted carpets, and bespoke joinery reflect Indian craftsmanship. Lighting and services are concealed within the ceiling and wall assemblies. Covering about 465 square metres, the interior moves from private to social zones and is planned as a calm urban retreat.

Prashant Chauhan's Pearl White Residential Interior exemplifies the contemporary movement toward restrained luxury in domestic environments, where spatial serenity and artistic vitality achieve dynamic equilibrium through careful choreography of neutral backdrops and chromatic focal points, this approach draws upon enduring traditions of modernist spatial clarity while embracing the warmth and tactility increasingly valued in residential interiors as counterbalance to minimalist austerity, the design demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how color, texture, light, and proportion collaborate to create environments that support both aesthetic contemplation and daily inhabitation, the compositional achievement resides primarily in the strategic deployment of contrast, not merely chromatic contrast between the neutral envelope and vibrant artwork, but also textural contrast between smooth reflective flooring and soft tactile upholstery, geometric contrast between the curtains' vertical linearity and the furniture's organic curves, and scalar contrast between the commanding artwork and human-scaled furnishings, this layered approach to visual organization creates spatial richness without complexity, allowing the eye to move comfortably through the environment while discovering rewarding details at multiple scales, the chromatic sophistication manifests in the careful calibration of warm and cool neutrals, the walls and ceiling presenting a warm white with subtle cream undertones that receives and reflects natural light while maintaining warmth, the flooring introducing cooler gray-taupe tones that ground the composition, and the curtains mediating between these temperatures through their layered construction combining cool white sheers with warmer beige opacity, this neutral foundation allows the artwork to assert its full chromatic intensity without competition, its palette of navy, terracotta, burgundy, and ochre reading as jewel-like against the pale surround, while the cognac leather chair provides a warm analog to the artwork's earth tones, creating chromatic dialogue across the spatial depth, the lighting design demonstrates particular accomplishment in balancing multiple sources to achieve even ambient illumination while directing focused attention toward the artwork, the diffused natural light from the left creates soft overall visibility and emphasizes the transparency and layering of the curtain treatment, while the artificial sources provide controlled accenting and compensate for natural light's variability, maintaining consistent spatial legibility across different times and conditions, thematically the interior explores the perennial design question of how domestic environments can simultaneously serve as personal sanctuaries offering visual calm and as stages for artistic expression and aesthetic engagement, the space suggests that these objectives need not conflict but can mutually reinforce when approached with disciplinary sophistication, the artwork's abstract figural motif may reference various cultural textile traditions, from ceremonial tapestries to contemporary fiber art movements, its scale and positioning according it the spatial prominence typically reserved for significant artworks, suggesting the inhabitants' commitment to living with art as central rather than peripheral to daily experience, the furniture selections reveal knowledge of design history, the leather chair's sculptural organicism suggesting familiarity with mid-century masters while its scale and finish indicate contemporary manufacture, the bouclé sofa's soft geometry and textural richness aligning with current preferences for approachable luxury and tactile comfort over visual austerity, the circular coffee table functioning as both practical surface and sculptural object, its form creating visual respite from the room's dominant rectilinearity while its material palette echoing the broader neutral scheme, the arrangement of objects upon the table demonstrates curatorial sensibility, each element chosen for form, finish, and contribution to the overall composition rather than purely functional necessity, viewers might contemplate how this interior balances the competing demands of contemporary residential life, serving simultaneously as restful retreat, aesthetic statement, social space, and personal expression, and how the careful orchestration of seemingly simple elements, neutral colors, natural materials, considered proportions, creates spatial sophistication that rewards sustained inhabitation and repeated viewing.

Layered lighting, concealed services, and precision-installed marble flooring ensured seamless visual continuity and functional performance.
Design Challenge
The primary challenge was designing a fluid circular layout within a high-rise structural grid while meeting strict building regulations and service constraints. Balancing panoramic views with privacy, integrating large artworks, and coordinating bespoke materials required precise planning, technical coordination, and on-site problem solving to maintain spatial continuity and construction accuracy.
Project Duration
The project commenced in 2023 in Mumbai, India, and was completed in 2025 in Mumbai. The residence was designed and executed as a private luxury apartment within a high-rise urban context.
