About Tenniix AI Tennis Robot
Tenniix is an artificial intelligence tennis robot designed to act as a training partner. A dual vision system tracks the player position and the ball trajectory in real time. Tenniix moves autonomously to return shots and to create continuous rallies. Training pace and modes are selected by voice commands or through an application. Use is simple: the folding panel is opened, the balls are loaded, and practice begins. The robot measures 392 by 271 by 448 millimetres. The aim is to make advanced training accessible to players of all levels.
Emerging from contemporary traditions of performance-oriented product design, Chen Chen's Tenniix AI Tennis Robot represents a sophisticated synthesis of athletic equipment engineering and intelligent machine aesthetics that invites contemplation of evolving human-technology relationships in recreational contexts. The work demonstrates remarkable command of form language, orchestrating a vertical composition that ascends from a stable quadruped base through sculptural volumes culminating in the dramatic articulation of its upper compartment system, whose ribbed panels suggest both functional purpose and expressive visual drama. Technical achievement is evident throughout the design, from the considered material transitions between smooth body panels and textured functional surfaces to the precise integration of interface elements including the LED matrix display and typographic applications that communicate operational guidance without compromising aesthetic coherence. The chromatic strategy employs the established convention of high-visibility accent colors within predominantly neutral palettes, yet achieves distinctive character through the specific chartreuse-against-anthracite combination that projects contemporary athletic energy while maintaining professional gravitas. Notable is the work's successful navigation between approachability and technological authority, presenting sufficient complexity to suggest sophisticated capability while retaining visual clarity that welcomes rather than intimidates potential users. The modular design language, explicitly referenced through the upgradable module designation, speaks to contemporary values of extensibility and sustained relevance that characterize thoughtful product development philosophy. One might observe how the wing-like upper configuration introduces organic dynamism into an otherwise rational geometric vocabulary, creating visual tension between mechanical precision and biomimetic suggestion that enlivens the overall composition. The viewer is invited to consider how such objects increasingly populate athletic and recreational spaces, and what their formal characteristics communicate about aspirations toward enhanced human performance through technological partnership.

- Production Technology
- Tenniix was realized through an integrated process combining mechanical engineering, embedded systems, and AI software development. The product utilizes precision-molded structural components, durable lightweight materials, and a modular hardware architecture. A dual-vision AI system, onboard processors, and motion control algorithms were developed through iterative prototyping and real-world testing, ensuring reliable performance, accurate tracking, and scalable production readiness.
- Design Challenge
- The main challenge was balancing advanced AI and robotics with simplicity and reliability for everyday users. Internally, the team needed to translate professional training standards into an intuitive experience. Externally, constraints such as hardware durability, production scalability, cost control, and real-time AI performance required continuous optimization. Overcoming these factors demanded close integration of design, engineering, and real-world testing.
- Project Duration
- The project was officially initiated in October 2024 in Hong Kong, completed in September 2025 in Shenzhen, and subsequently exhibited at the CES exhibition in Las Vegas in January 2026.
- Operation Flow
- Tenniix is intuitive and easy to use. Users simply open the folding panel, load the tennis balls, and begin training. The device automatically follows the player’s position and returns shots intelligently to create continuous rallies. Training pace and modes can be adjusted via voice commands or the app, without the need for complex setup.
