- Production Technology
- Polyester dyed in black and grey yarns woven in electronic jacquard looms. Sandwich special weave technique, satines and tafeta weaves.
- Design Challenge
- The first test to do a textile was using just some techniques of yarns with different thickness. The result was weak so the project stopped untill I found a technique of weaves that uses three yarns on three layers. The most important layer is the last one, because it uses a very thick yarns which pushes the middle yarn. The principal yarn uses very opened weaves so it allows to make the volume visible and touchable. All the horizontal yarns had to be tors threads because without them the fabric could have hook problems with machines.
- Project Duration
- This project started in November, 2010 and finished in april, 2011. It has been exhibited in Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico City, Central de Diseño, Matadero-Madrid, Zaragoza, Perú and Ecuador.
- Operation Flow
- The people with difficulty of sight learn the alphabet by touching the six points of the braille reading from left to right. The helper reads the letters and touches too the braille. The idea accomplished is that people with low resources that cannot acces to special attention in order to learn can have a piece of fabric on their own placea. Fabrics are more frienfly to touch than paper or metal.
- Research
- I made for months a research on weave techniques and yarns interaction in order to get the aproppiate volume in order to work for real not just for a prototype.I presented to a special organization for blinded people and they said it really work and people could read the points or cells in grey. Also it was easy for the interpreter to get close to braille language. It can be calisified as a non-commercial textile but it can be used on campaigns even woven with colors to support entities or organizations.
- Inspiration
- The inspiration starts to find other more friendly materials to instruct and learn the braille system than paper and metal plaques, using and studying the braille system of six points or cells.

Design Interview about Textile Braille Educational-teaching, Tactile
Reading and learning the braille system through a very common and friendly material: textile
I wanted to design something for people with visual problems and make a textile with a social meaning. A fabric that could be produced inssutrially and massively. An occidental universal textile.
To contact entities for blinded people in order to make projects with this textile. Provide these organizations with a tool to teach the system and open an opportunity to learn with new materials.
It tooked me months, almost a year because I made a first protoype and the only propperty was the difference of textures between the yarns in the cells and in the back. After months I learnt and apply by a research of my own a new technique which finally could give the circles a volume that really could be different from the plain surface.
I pursuit the idea of creating something that besides being commercial or not, something with a real meaning and challenging.
My designed was made in a textile Mill as a personal project. I am planning that organizations contact me fot campaigns or new developments social and commercial.
evolution of my career and always new challenges
people with vision problems and blindsight through ONG organizations
because it is new, fresh, social plus it contains good aesthetics
Braille wikipedia defnition says: "It is a is a tactile writing system used by the blind and the visually impaired"
yarns, looms, CAD Software and a lot of patience.
that it really works and one day you can have 150 meters of this fabric woven.
Everything has to do with techonology about this design. You cannot mad it without it.
Yes, i ts influenced by doing some research of braille language, how the cells and points work as a code and how when you combine some codes form numbers or capital letters.
Finding the right technique and yarns mixture to get the high and low relief.
Because I already submitted it on Mexico and Spain. I want to go global because I consider it unique.
I improve with techniques and developments on weaves. The main and most important thing that I accomplished was the beginning of experimenting with jacquard industrial looms from now on. Of course mills across the world where owners want to cooperate and develop this kind of projects.
This is a design for everybody and inspires designers to be better and responsable.
