About Xiamen Marriott Hotel Hotel

Elements of tea culture and the hotel's coastal surroundings beauty combined to inspire the project's modern bespoke furnishings and light color palette. Xiamen Marriott Hotel covers an area of more than 60,000 square meters and features 366 contemporary rooms and suites. With only a few steps away to the seaside, this fantastic location hotel is designed to cater for the guests who are looking for an escape from their corporate retreats in CBD and offer a more relaxing and unique meeting destination.

Bo Liu's award-winning hospitality design represents a distinguished achievement in the synthesis of regional architectural heritage with contemporary luxury accommodation requirements, demonstrating how traditional formal vocabularies can be reinterpreted to serve modern programmatic demands while honoring cultural continuity. The facade composition employs the time-honored principles of classical East Asian palace and temple architecture, most notably in the sweeping eaves with their characteristic upturned corners, yet translates these elements through contemporary materials and construction methodologies that enable the extensive glazed curtain walls revealing the luminous interior volumes. The designer appears to have carefully calibrated the relationship between solid and void, between opacity and transparency, creating a facade that reads as both protective enclosure and generous invitation. The chromatic strategy orchestrates warm timber tones against neutral rendered surfaces, establishing a palette that suggests both the natural materials of historical construction and the refined finishes expected of premier hospitality environments. Particularly noteworthy is the treatment of the arrival sequence, where the raised forecourt platform with its integrated edge lighting transforms the approach into a ceremonial progression, elevating the quotidian act of hotel entry into an experiential threshold crossing. The strategic placement of mature palm specimens provides both tropical botanical context and vertical elements that mediate between the human scale of arrival and the monumental scale of the architecture. This work invites contemplation of how contemporary hospitality design might draw upon deep wells of cultural memory while creating spaces that feel simultaneously rooted in tradition and responsive to present-day expectations for comfort, transparency, and visual connection between interior and exterior realms.

Design Challenge
One of the challenge facing is how to define the interior contemporary design style to match with the architectural structure shape in a more harmony vision at the same time with a balanced consideration of site, environment and program requirements. Further challenges are how to make the most efficient and economical floor plan configurations to maximize the percentage of floor area devoted to guest rooms and keep to a minimum the amount of circulation and service space, how to reduce as much as possible the walking distances for both the guest and housekeeping and management staff, how to locate public and service elevators and how to do the most appropriate configuration for the guest room to give the guests a greater connection to the site. With only steps from the seaside, proper construction materials chosen are also challengeable.
Project Duration
The project started in 2014 and finished construction in 2017. Hotel start operating in March 2017 in Xiamen.
Operation Flow
The most efficient and economical floor plan configurations are maximized to devote to the guest rooms and keep a minimum amount of circulation and service space to reduce as much as possible the walking distances for both the guest and housekeeping and management staff, to relocate public and service elevators and assign the most appropriate configuration for the guest room to give the guests a greater connection to the site.
Inspiration
Drawing inspiration from the local elements of tea culture and the coastal surroundings, the designer use modern bespoke furnishing and light color palette to define the interior design style so as to better coincide with the exterior heavy structure shape in a more balance and harmony way. Inspired by the universal story of migration and reunion, the All Day Dining reflects a contemporary reclaimed farmhouse aesthetic where urban sensibilities and rural roots coexist in harmony.
