About Haimen Vanke Jadeite Sales Center
Haimen Vanke Jadeite is a sales center in Haimen, Jiangsu Province, China. The interior covers 2000 square meters and uses the large-span, high-ceiling character of the building. The layout follows the traditional courtyard plan and refers to the local history of the sea gate. A marble coffee table and soft seating form a relaxed lounge area, while blue tones recall the fishing life of the region. Two wooden volumes hold the VIP room and the children's area, enclosed by floor-to-ceiling glass for privacy. A large staircase turns upward through the space.
Wally Mau's Haimen Vanke Jadeite Sales Center, honored with the A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design, exemplifies a distinguished approach to contemporary hospitality architecture that thoughtfully synthesizes modernist spatial principles with resonant cultural references drawn from East Asian aesthetic traditions. The design appears to engage deeply with the phenomenology of threshold experiences, orchestrating a carefully calibrated sequence of spatial compressions and releases that guide visitors through zones of varying intimacy and openness. The suspended sculptural installation serves as the compositional and conceptual heart of the space, its tumbling paper-like forms evoking poetic associations with calligraphic brushwork, scattered lotus petals, or perhaps leaves carried on autumn winds—imagery deeply embedded within contemplative cultural frameworks celebrating transience, natural beauty, and the aesthetic appreciation of impermanence. The technical accomplishment evident in the ceiling treatment demonstrates masterful understanding of how repetitive timber elements can establish visual rhythm while simultaneously modulating acoustic properties and creating warm atmospheric envelopment. The perforated metal screens represent a particularly successful integration of traditional craft sensibilities with contemporary fabrication technologies, their intricate floral patterns functioning as both decorative enrichment and practical light-filtering devices that transform harsh daylight into soft, dappled illumination reminiscent of sunlight through forest canopy or traditional lattice window screens. The chromatic strategy operates with deliberate restraint, allowing natural material warmth to predominate while the singular terracotta accent panel provides necessary visual punctuation and spatial orientation. One observes how the furniture selection reinforces the overall design philosophy through its synthesis of sculptural interest and functional comfort, the mosaic-surfaced coffee table suggesting both contemporary art object and functional amenity. The space invites contemplation of how architecture might honor cultural heritage while embracing contemporary design innovation, and viewers may wish to consider how such environments shape our emotional experience of commercial transactions, transforming them into occasions for aesthetic appreciation and cultural connection.

- Unique Properties
- The large-span, high-scale spatial characteristics of the building, combined with the history of the Millennium Sea Gate and the prestige of the Jadeite, are the key elements of our design considerations. Therefore, we finally decided to create a multi-dimensional blend of ancient and modern, fashionable and luxurious for the urban newcomers here. Meeting place.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The project covers a total of 2000 square meters. Two wooden blocks in the VIP room and the children's area are extended on both sides of the central axis, and can only be seen through the floor-to-ceiling glass partition on one side. It has independent privacy and internal and external connectivity, which maintains the beauty of the external order and magnifies the visual scale of the interior space.

- Production Technology
- The introverted and elegant marble coffee table is matched with a soft stool that looks like a random place, which will inadvertently reflect the current free and easy lifestyle.
The soft furnishings here use modern charm, which will match the blue of the fishermen's life scenes, and enrich the depth and content of the space. - Design Challenge
- It's not just that creating something new is a creation. It's equally creative to re-develop a familiar thing as an unknown field. Therefore, the designer chose to inherit the spatial layout of the traditional four-in-one courtyard and implant the temperament of the Haimen Cultural Museum. The "order" of time and space, the "potential" of space.
- Project Duration
- The project started in March 2018 in Haimen and finished in August 2018 in Haimen.
- Operation Flow
- The large-scale staircase rotates upwards, re-emphasizing the fusion of the freedom of contemporary art and the promotion of future life in a silent way.
- Research
- Haimen City, Jiangsu Province, which is known as the "Jianghai Gateway", is located at the mouth of the Yangtze River and faces Shanghai across the river. Enter the open academic institution, through the quiet courtyard, through the corridor to the main building of the sales office. In the Tang Dynasty poet Zhang Jiuling, in the "Wang Yue Huai Yuan", the situation of "the sea is shining and the moon is at the end of the world" is also unfolding.
- Inspiration
- Following the design concept of Vanke Jadeite Oriental Residence and new aesthetics, the project is based on the design of "Love Poetry, Elegant and Natural", and blends Haimen's past, now and future in space. Therefore, after rooted in history and culture to tell modern life, designers will also inject space into the future, allowing people to feel a new possibility of design.
