About U Style Office
U Style is a hair studio interior located on the fifteenth floor of an office building in Fuzhou, China. The project covers 60 square meters within a narrow space. Curved lines move freely through the interior and overlap to form planes and a three-dimensional layout. Red is the main color and is applied in several shades, while large gray areas balance the strong tone. Green and white details are added to the fittings. The entrance is narrow and then opens out, recalling the passage from a cave into a valley.
Jifang Jiang's U Style Office emerges from a contemporary design discourse that celebrates the reconciliation of organic naturalism with refined minimalist restraint, participating in a broader movement toward biophilic and sensory-rich interior environments that prioritize human psychological wellbeing alongside aesthetic sophistication. The work demonstrates exceptional command of spatial choreography, orchestrating visitor experience through the theatrical interplay of sweeping curved partitions that suggest both embrace and directed movement, guiding occupants through the environment with the gentle authority of natural topography rather than rigid orthogonal constraint. The material palette reveals deep engagement with artisanal building traditions, particularly Mediterranean and North African techniques of lime-based plaster application that yield surfaces simultaneously ancient in their tactile warmth and contemporary in their restrained chromatic sophistication, the rich terracotta tones evoking sun-baked earth while maintaining the refined finish expected of progressive commercial interiors. Compositional intelligence manifests in the careful calibration of formal elements: the generous arched window provides both literal illumination and symbolic connection to exterior worlds, while the substantial oval mirror amplifies spatial perception and introduces visual complexity through its reflective doubling of the environment. The integrated linear lighting that traces architectural transitions represents a particularly thoughtful gesture, transforming utilitarian junction into poetic threshold while establishing wayfinding cues through luminous warmth. Thematically, the space appears to meditate upon shelter, transition, and the psychological comfort derived from environments that reference natural forms without literal mimicry, suggesting perhaps that contemporary commercial spaces might aspire to the nurturing qualities traditionally associated with domestic or sacred architecture. - Unique Properties
- This case is a narrow space located on the 15th floor of the office building. The designer utilizes the interaction between structure and space to liberate the free movements of lines in the space. Starting points are revealed by multiple lines resembling paths of a cave. The free curvilinear translations of lines create various planes, which would be overlapped with each other to create a three-dimensional space with perceived fluidity.

- Production Technology
- The designer is extremely bold in applying colors, among which the red is the most eye-catching color in the project. The interlaced matching of one same color in different shades and the clear enclosure without any isolation sense applied on the steps could bring people with the feeling of being embraced, creating an office environment full with vitality, inspiration and creativity.
- Design Challenge
- Gray color is adopted in a large scale to perfectly alleviate the visual fatigue brought by the red color. As for devices in the space, the collision of green color against the red background and the integration of white color with the gray background have brought new vigor and vitality into the studio and make it a feast for the eyes.
- Project Duration
- The project started in September 2019 in Fuzhou and finished in December 2019 in Fuzhou.
- Operation Flow
- With the gradually wide vision from the narrow space at the entrance, one will have the feeling of stepping into an open space suddenly, which just like the experience of enjoy a large waterfall in a vast valley through a cave. The images of the space deliver a kind of unique imagination and vitality to the person in terms of vision and mentality.
- Research
- After living in cities full with uproars and noises, one would always be yarn for returning to the original nature. Among the hustles and bustles of the fast-paced city, people are more eager to see the shadow of the nature. The new energy from the breakthrough in design will stimulate the brain to transcend from loneness and relieve the fatigue brought by busy urban life.
- Inspiration
- As a senior hairdresser with more than 10 years of working experience from Fuzhou, Fujian, China, the Owner wants to own a studio full with vitality, inspiration and creativity, which is in harmony with his creative work. After placing into the studio, the fascinating experience will make people believe that they are in a valley.
