About Fusion House Residensiële Binneontwerp

Unique Properties
This residence was designed to express respect for inherited values while creating new meaning. A mixed structural system of reinforced concrete and timber construction was adopted to achieve both stability and spatial openness. Materials reflecting Eastern and Western sensibilities were selected to shape the interior atmosphere. A dedicated space for welcoming overseas guests was planned as a distinct spatial layer within the residence.
Dimensions & Packaging
Within the double-height living space, the feature wall functions as a core interior element.
The combination of traditional Japanese plaster and hand-crafted washi sliding doors by a Kyoto Yuzen artist shapes the atmosphere of the interior, integrating material depth, light, and vertical continuity into a cohesive interior scheme.

Production Technology
The building employs a mixed structural system combining reinforced concrete and traditional wooden construction to ensure stability and flexibility.
Roof forms were unified across the site to create visual continuity with the surrounding buildings, while partial shed roofs were introduced where required by function.
Structural rigidity of the roof was secured using J panel roof construction.
The new building was carefully positioned between the existing garden, kura, and the parents house, allowing the architecture to integrate naturally into the inherited site context.
Design Challenge
The primary challenge was integrating everyday living and hospitality into a cohesive interior scheme.
Through spatial sequencing and material control, the design balances privacy, openness, and comfort within the interior environment.
Research
The interior integrates Eastern and Western sensibilities into a highly resolved scheme, where unified materials and spatial composition allow everyday living and hospitality to coexist within a shared family setting.
Inspiration
This project is located on a site inherited through generations, shared with a Japanese garden, an existing kura, and the parents' house. The client requested a new living environment for a multi generational family, including spaces for daily life and for welcoming guests from abroad. A pine tree at the center of the garden became a reference for building placement, guiding the careful integration of a new residence within the inherited context.
Project Duration
This project is a private residence located in Japan.
Operation Flow
The residence is organized so that daily living spaces and guest areas function independently while remaining visually and spatially connected.
This arrangement allows residents and visitors to move naturally through the house while maintaining privacy and clarity of use.
