The Design

About Elan Vital Glasgeschirr

Unique Properties
Because of regularly arranging the motifs of matching cups that imagine a fun encounter, the design is full of dynamism that evokes vivid polka dots, splashes, or bait balls of a large school of fish spinning in the water.
Additionally, when viewed from the side or top, eye-shaped patterns that make up the motif of the inner cup shine through or reflect while changing in various ways, giving people a sense of the dynamism of life and filling them with healing and happiness.

Production Technology
The double-layered glassware is carefully ground and polished by hand using Japanese Kiriko cut glass technology.
Design Challenge
For the grinding wheel, a V-shaped wide-angle wheel was specially ordered. I also practiced and acquired the skill of making precise horizontal cuts in the lower part of the glass where it is difficult to see.
Research
In order to realize the design of Elan Vital, it was necessary to prepare a grinding wheel that could cut the shape of the eyes and the skill to make many horizontal cuts precisely in the lower part of the glass where the cut points were difficult to see.
Inspiration
Through Japanese Kiriko cut glass, the project has enriched human lives.
The idea of the pattern of Elan Vital started from the image of matching cups of liquor with the desire to regain fun reunions with close friends and family in a situation where people's connections tend to be weak due to the corona wreck.
Project Duration
The project started in March 2022 in Tokushima, Japan, and finished in August 2022.
Operation Flow
The eye-shaped pattern that makes up the motif of matching cups is a wide-angle V-cut, so when viewed from the side, the design on the inside changes and shines through, as shown in the main image. When viewed from the top, the pattern on the inside reflects and sparkles in various ways shown in optional image #1.
Additionally, the design is very smooth to the touch and shock-resistant because the cut of the eye-shaped pattern is shallow in depth.
Patents
The design is applying for design registration and will get copyright in registered designs in December 2022 in Japan.
