Regarding Everflow Residence
Everflow is a residential interior design for an apartment of about 76 square meters in Taiwan. The home has three bedrooms, a living room and a dining room. A diagonal cut at the entrance widens the view of the foyer and conceals appliances and clutter. A curved metal cabinet softens the transition into the social area. The kitchen island is joined to the dining table with mortise-and-tenon craftsmanship, forming a central hub for cooking and gatherings. Matte velvet paint on the ceiling reduces the visual weight of the low beams.

Design Details
- Unique Properties
- To resolve the overlap of the entrance and kitchen, the designer used diagonal cuts to visually expand the foyer, hiding appliances and clutter while ensuring smooth flow. A curved metal cabinet softened transitions, so the social area felt bright and open upon entry. The dining table and island were joined with mortise-and-tenon craftsmanship, merging preparation and dining into the heart of interaction. Centrally placed, the island preserved sightlines to the living room, allowing fluid movement and fostering togetherness.
- Inspiration
- At dawn, natural light bathes the home, filling every corner with warmth. Guided by the residents' preferences, the designer used diagonal lines and soft lighting to add depth and layers, shaping a narrative of 'transmitting light and shadow.' The design balances practicality with artistry, where movement reveals a flowing rhythm of brightness and energy. Sunlight becomes the protagonist, uniting cherished belongings with daily living. In celebration of this interplay, the home is aptly named Everflow, symbolizing an endless dialogue of light, space, and life.
- Research
- At dawn, golden light streams through crafted sills, diffusing across curves and softening metal into gentle ripples. Rooted in the concept of 'transmitting light and shadow,' Everflow places sunlight at the heart, shifting in expression over time. Angled lines and soft lighting add layered depth, while curved metal cabinets ease transitions and open views. A palette of white, gray, beige-gold, and milky gray balances bright and dark tones, merging cherished objects with daily life, creating a home both practical and poetic.
- Challenge
- The main challenge lay in the low ceiling and dense beams. To reduce pressure, matte velvet paint was applied overhead, softening confinement. The diagonal cut between the foyer and kitchen required precise calculation to ensure smooth movement of furniture and appliances. The homeowner's preference for large figurines and unique artworks demanded generous display walls with depth. Balancing these needs with hidden storage, the design created practical solutions without adding visual burden, achieving harmony between function and aesthetics.
- Realization and Technology
- Materials include wavy and brushed metal panels, matte velvet paint, laminate flooring, and limited stone. Metal panels clad the foyer's curved surfaces and storage units, creating a luminous sheen. Matte velvet paint enriches the ceiling and TV wall with warmth and depth. Laminate flooring extends through living and dining areas, balancing durability with comfort underfoot. Select countertops feature stone accents, adding refinement and tactile contrast within the overall material palette.
- Operation and Interaction
- The homeowner admired the linear lighting, bright by day and softly glowing at night. The kitchen island merges with the dining table, making gatherings and family parties effortless, while the open area supports cooking, play, and conversation. A diagonal cut at the entrance expands the view yet preserves privacy, concealing clutter while offering visual openness. Thoughtful details in storage, lighting, and circulation create a home that balances practicality with warmth, ensuring comfort and ease in daily living.
- Project Duration and Location
- The project finished in November 2024 in Taiwan.
- Specifications
- The space spans about 76 square meters, arranged with three bedrooms, a living room, and a dining room. Because the homeowner places a high value on social interaction and display, the designer devoted extra attention to the social area. The most striking feature is the relatively spacious kitchen island, which has become the core for family gatherings, interactions, and daily living. An L-shaped circulation path connects the living room to the dining area, with the island acting as a hub that seamlessly integrates the kitchen, dining, and living spaces into one fluid, dynamic area.
