Inspired by the nature of Irabu island in Okinawa Japan, this villa is designed to be a part of the island. Surrounded by Natural Limestone, covered in reclaimed wood and decorated with unique art pieces based on traditional colors and shapes this villa is a private retreat on the beach of Sawada. Expression of the design concept are the following keywords: [nature] [symbiosis] [simplicity]The focus of the architectural shape is a full harmony with the topography and colors of the island.The interior is designed to provide a simple and relaxing space without saturating the senses.

Interview with Norito Nakahara on Feliz Villa Suite Hospitality

What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
To achieve the feeling of a Hidden resort. Not just a luxury design but the time spent there to be a luxury time.
What are your future plans for this award winning design?
The clients of this villa to be able to feel the design and luxury time that can be spent there and to be able to feel the relaxation that can be achieved only on the island of Okinawa.
How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
By taking the place as an inspiration , reflecting the Local atmosphere in the design trough the selection of the materials, art and the architectural design itself. The design of the deck brings a feel of [home] and invites the guests to feel the Local peaceful surroundings in the design.
Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
The location of the land is in the heart of the island where the presence of the natural is very strong. Rather than fight the natural, i prefer to blend in it.
What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
Maybe the most important point of the materials used and the simplicity of the design.
What is the most unique aspect of your design?
The combination of the natural reclaimed wood materials with the local limestone.
Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?
Not particularly influenced. We made some research on architectural aspects of this kind of villas
What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
To make the appearance of the design simple the details had to me made with extra caution.
How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
I wanted to present this work to an international level competition
What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
To find the design in the simplicity is not always easy to achieve but when it is achieved it brings a unique feeling to every design.
